skifreak Posted May 25, 2005 Report Posted May 25, 2005 For anybody looking for grass skis there are currently three auctions on E-bay. You can type in the search box grass skis if the links below don't work. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...ssPageName=WDVW http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...ssPageName=WDVW http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...ssPageName=WDVW Quote
Papasteeze Posted May 25, 2005 Report Posted May 25, 2005 I entered bids on them - I need one for parts and 1 pair for each boy. There is a group leader picnic at Bear Creek in August. The admins might want to get an invite, the indication is since, the lifts will be running that we MIGHT be able to use them there on that day. I'm not sure if the run either side of the lift is steep enough, what do you guys think? Quote
Papasteeze Posted May 27, 2005 Report Posted May 27, 2005 Man o man - the bidding is way outa control on these skis.. I gotta examine what it would take to start making these again. Anyone have any thoughts? 1pr @ $180 another at $160 and these are for antiques!! wonder what the market would bear on modern day ones? Quote
VTmark Posted May 27, 2005 Report Posted May 27, 2005 wonder what the market would bear on modern day ones? 27068[/snapback] probly not very much at first. First you would have to crate a market thats bigger than the one that is going on now. Then maybe it might become more expansice. Quote
tretiak Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 found a carve board on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...7158562639&rd=1 Quote

New grass skis run from $250 to $900, from what I've seen. The Rollka's are like intermediate snow skis, while a French company is making a grass ski that is like an Atomic GS:11, or any equivalent. Americans have just spent the last 20 years showing they aren't interested in grass skiing. And grass skiing doesn't translate to any sort of jibbing, since they have to carve and not leave the ground. Quote

But thier's no way you could modfie them like with the trick blades? Quote
Ski Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 It would be a whole different product because you'd have to make something that skids. Design it and become rich. Quote
skidude Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 Hey ski...I ended up in the air after i went over that mad cliff...and by mad cliff I mean tree stump... Quote
romemadman Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 that is like the carve board my friend has but he had long board wheels on his Quote

Anyone got any venture capital? Quote
VTmark Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 dude if i did i would be right their helping you out. Quote

Papasteeze Posted May 31, 2005 Report Posted May 31, 2005 ahhhhh if it breaks even and all i ever got out of it was some cool grass skis then it would be worth it. I can watch them getting sold on ebay 20 years later. That has some value Quote
Papasteeze Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 Finally - I found brand new grass skis that can be ordered - albeit from half way around the world http://www.grasski.com/ Quote
AtomicSkier Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 look to be the same construction as the rolka's. For a 90cm grass ski, you're looking at about $350 USD. Quote
Timeless Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 I'd not really been so interested in this thread until I saw the kite page on that link, what a great idea..... Quote

Anyone want some overpriced antique Rollkas? Hmmmm wonder what I can sell them for on ebay? Quote
Ski Posted June 1, 2005 Report Posted June 1, 2005 I emailed them a dozen times over a six month period and they never responded. I chatted with a guy from Bryce who had a pair about two years ago. They are very high maintenance and much more fragile than Rollka's, he said. They are much faster, though, but be prepared to tune them every time out and bucket wash them after every use. I thought your's were broken... Quote

I still might get them and if they are really problematic then ebay looks like the place to get rid of stuff.. Plus I think I found an untapped market over at newschoolers. 1 pair of rollkas has three cleats that are broken - the ski is still functions fine though. 2 more are in the mail - and I thought I might take a stab at at the set that is on ebay now. We will have to team up with you at some point this summer!! I sent an email too, as I was clicking the send button - I got to thinking that htey may not read english - I'll try to translate in german. My question was for 100lb 5foot kid, what length would they reccomend.. Any ideas? Edited June 2, 2005 by Papasteeze Quote
skifreak Posted June 3, 2005 Author Report Posted June 3, 2005 Found another pair on ebay. They are from a company called Ski Trac, not Rolka. The current bid is $130 and still has three more days to go. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...ssPageName=WDVW Quote
skidude Posted June 3, 2005 Report Posted June 3, 2005 Those look like they are just about the same set up at the Rolkas Quote
Papasteeze Posted June 3, 2005 Report Posted June 3, 2005 (edited) Yeah accept those look brand spanking new - I started the bidding at $5 I can't belive how high they have gotten already.. Seems to me that unless some new grass ski floods the market that they will retain thier value. Edit: BTW the last 3 sets of Rollkas have gone for over $155 each with shipping as much as $30 on top of that... Edited June 3, 2005 by Papasteeze Quote

Ski Posted June 3, 2005 Report Posted June 3, 2005 Rollka made them under a few names. Not sure if they supplied them to other companies or changed their own name of the years they were in business. That's the first pair with green treads that I've seen, though. Quote
