I entered bids on them - I need one for parts and 1 pair for each boy. There is a group leader picnic at Bear Creek in August. The admins might want to get an invite, the indication is since, the lifts will be running that we MIGHT be able to use them there on that day. I'm not sure if the run either side of the lift is steep enough, what do you guys think?

Man o man - the bidding is way outa control on these skis.. I gotta examine what it would take to start making these again. Anyone have any thoughts? 1pr @ $180 another at $160 and these are for antiques!! wonder what the market would bear on modern day ones?

probly not very much at first. First you would have to crate a market thats bigger than the one that is going on now. Then maybe it might become more expansice.

It's an international sanctioned sport run by the FIS (the same people that oversee World Cup skiing). New grass skis run from $250 to $900, from what I've seen. The Rollka's are like intermediate snow skis, while a French company is making a grass ski that is like an Atomic GS:11, or any equivalent.

Americans have just spent the last 20 years showing they aren't interested in grass skiing. And grass skiing doesn't translate to any sort of jibbing, since they have to carve and not leave the ground.

I still go the idea stuck in my head that some type of niche market might be feasible. the track is going to be complicated to get bent.. the rest of the ski looks simple enough. Anyone got any venture capital?

Sounds like a bad investment...

ahhhhh if it breaks even and all i ever got out of it was some cool grass skis then it would be worth it. I can watch them getting sold on ebay 20 years later. That has some value :D

look to be the same construction as the rolka's.  For a 90cm grass ski, you're looking at about $350 USD.

ah yep, super pricey - I guess with modern parts and it looks like he has been making them for awhile.... Anyone want some overpriced antique Rollkas? Hmmmm wonder what I can sell them for on ebay?

I emailed them a dozen times over a six month period and they never responded. I chatted with a guy from Bryce who had a pair about two years ago. They are very high maintenance and much more fragile than Rollka's, he said. They are much faster, though, but be prepared to tune them every time out and bucket wash them after every use.

I thought your's were broken...

I appreciate knowing that, thanks. I still might get them and if they are really problematic then ebay looks like the place to get rid of stuff.. Plus I think I found an untapped market over at newschoolers.

1 pair of rollkas has three cleats that are broken - the ski is still functions fine though. 2 more are in the mail - and I thought I might take a stab at at the set that is on ebay now. We will have to team up with you at some point this summer!!

I sent an email too, as I was clicking the send button - I got to thinking that htey may not read english - I'll try to translate in german. My question was for 100lb 5foot kid, what length would they reccomend.. Any ideas?

Yeah accept those look brand spanking new - I started the bidding at $5 I can't belive how high they have gotten already.. Seems to me that unless some new grass ski floods the market that they will retain thier value.

Edit: BTW the last 3 sets of Rollkas have gone for over $155 each with shipping as much as $30 on top of that...

I think all the interest is coming from PASR members bidding against each other :)

Rollka made them under a few names. Not sure if they supplied them to other companies or changed their own name of the years they were in business. That's the first pair with green treads that I've seen, though.
