RootDKJ Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Uh hello everybody, I'm looking to get ms root a beginner snowboard setup, but I'm a little out of my depth here. She's taken exactly 1 lesson and loved it. The game plan is to get her some gear that she can use to progress on (and take more lessons). We're not big fans of daily rentals. She wants to spend more time on the snow with me, but since her accident a few years ago, she finds the skiing wears her out quicker. Looking for mostly "All mountain" or "freeride" boards. She's not interested in the park at all. The ideal setup would be something to last a year or two. Boards are tricky, because she also has to like the top sheet design. Here's what I dug up. Boots - I'm can to play the free shipping, free return game with REI for a while. Board - http://www.rei.com/p...ard-womens-0910 or http://www.rei.com/p...womens-20102011 Bindings - http://www.rei.com/p...omens-20102011? I'm open to suggestions if someone has better options. Quote
Glenn Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Go to a store and buy boots in person that fit well. Then work up to from there. Boot + Binding combo is important. Both of those snowboards looked alight. Quote
Barb Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 I agree with Glenn. Don't buy boots over the internet. Your wife must have great balance. Usually the first few times on a snowboard are miserable. It would be nice to have another female snowboarder on the board (who is in my age bracket). Quote
Ride Delaware ? Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 I agree with Glenn. Don't buy boots over the internet. Your wife must have great balance. Usually the first few times on a snowboard are miserable. It would be nice to have another female snowboarder on the board (who is in my age bracket). It took me a solid 5 days on the snow before I could really get my balance on a board down. I learned at Snowshoe during a freeze thaw, and my knees were black and blue for a week after that trip. That being said, props to her for liking it that quickly (especially if she was getting her ass kicked). I mirror the above. I will buy bindings and boards online, but I would never mess with boots online. Best case scenario is to go to a store, try boots on, find the size and model she likes, and then go back home and order them online. It will save you the money you want to save, and the hassle of playing the return game with REI. I haven't ridden a "beginner" board going on 9 years now, but I would make sure it is directional twin instead of a true twin. Thats the only advice I've got for now... Quote
RootDKJ Posted May 4, 2011 Author Report Posted May 4, 2011 Another deal I found...again I have no experience with good beginner equipment. http://www.evo.com/outlet/mashups/m3-escape-snowboard-solstice-bindings-womens-2008.aspx Hear you on the boots, maybe we'll swing out to Bucktors or Nestmans.
