Justo... You had me at waist deep fresh but you lost me at hike, slid, and 5-25 foot cliffs. lol

Jeff

I don't go out west for a vacation, I go to Disney World and shit for that. I go on ski trips to ski my ass off in good snow and great terrain. You can keep the clubbing and $100 meals with wine and shit, I'll grab a burger, a draft and shoot the shit about skiing with skiers. Then I will ski some more, grab some cheap food and get myself a t-shirt. To each their own I guess.

My life in Allentown is more like a vacation by Phillycores description lol. After skiing I like to do stuff at night. I can't just watch TV. Why Aspen was ahem different.

haha...it's called relaxing. you need to do more of it.

what i meant by vacation was...relaxation. I don't want constant stimulation like Doug does on a ski trip. He has to be on the dancefloor almost every night. I'm in bed by then.

The first rule of Pow Mow is you do not talk about Pow Mow

Seriously though if you discount that place its because you suck as a person and probably at riding too. James and Lightning are pretty ill and James is pretty unflat.

Canyons is 9990 and that's it, if you have the skills and the alpentech maps, lift the heal and you'll find a little section of paradise. The lower part of that hill is pretty much like riding at Bromley.

Park City/Deer Valley is where you go with your Mom.

Snowbasin is a tricky mother fucker, it doesn't get the same kind of snow and is unusually rocky for UT. It is an ill mtn with the nicest bathrooms at 9500ft in the northern hemisphere, the dude who owns it is a first class cock but the slack/touring shit particularly off No Name is tremendous.

No one needs to say anything about Bird/Alta.

Solly can be a real gem, the lifts are somewhat haphazard but there are little pockets of Solly that are as good as anywhere else with 1/100th the crowd though that is changing.

Brighton is the hidden gem of the BCC/LCC, there is some real sweet shit in that neck of the woods without the LCC roid fueled madhouse. If you have a good snow nose you'll find it, additionally the park rats can't traverse for shit so just go a little further and its all yours.

This isn't going to be real popular here but Sundance is the shit, particularly if you want to get laid. It is by far the most beautiful of the UT resorts, in the ball park of Aspen Highlands which for my money is top 5. Timp is a gorgeous mtn and all the angles are right. Sundance is quiet like even more so than Pow Mow and it has way more steeps. Far skiers right is a nice 1000vert groomer that is the 40's, on both sides are short tree sections and it ends in a really cool wide coolie. Not alot of terrain but you got it all to yourself. Do not tour on timp, unless its May or you got some serious skills.

Take your women to Sundance, have a nice quiet slower type day. You'll get some good riding and awesome views. Then you book a meal in the restaurant for 5:30, you eat sweet food and be romantic. Then when you get back to your crib she'll put your penis in her mouth. Sickbird !

I like to stay in SLC, its cheap, there is more to eat/do and every resort in UT outside of Brian/Beaver is within 50 miles. Get a car and hit them all up but beware of the bee hive state cops, they are one strict bunch.

I wouldn't ski an inferior place just for burgers and beer.

Phillycore I think you should start another poll with even more choices.

have you skied there? it's not really inferior. it's an awesome place.

I love Powder Mountain been there a few times. Yea its not snowbird (in terms of terrain) but that is also part of what makes it awesome is that its a low key no frills area. I have a blast there, you can ride fresh tracks all day when it there hasn't been new snow for days I had a great time in Powder Country.

he was mocking others. he's been there. and we are going back. the place is killer. regardless of what others say. i've had some of the best turns of my life there... and i've had some pretty baller days elsewhere, so that's saying something.

exactly. sitting in the hot tub drinking tinnies is the perfect way to wind down a ski day.

Just booked my flight to SLC March 7-13th. Probably going to do Pow Mow, Snowbasin, Solitude, Snowbird, and probably hit Brighton the morning I get in and possibly again for a night session.

I'm thinking about heading out to SLC around the same time frame. How did you do on your flight they were up there last time I checked. You staying in SLC or out by the mountains?

I did alright on the flight, I booked Delta non stop from PHL. Ticket cost was $350 but I saved $100 off by applying and paying for it with a American Express Delta Skymiles card and give you 30,000 bonus miles as long as you spend $500 on it within 5 months or something which is enough miles for a free ticket next trip... Something to think about.

I am not too familiar with lodging options since I stay with my brother in Cottonwood Heights, but depending on what want to do you can find affordable options in either Cottonwood Heights, or Sandy which are both perfect locations for hitting the 4 main resorts in the Cottonwood Canyons and have extended stays, residence inn's etc.. If you stay in Downtown SLC you are adding about another 15-20 mins onto your drive to the resorts each day. When my dad goes out there to visit he stays at the Candlewood Suites on Fort Union which is pretty cheap and not a dump.

Tahoe is tougher to get to from the east coast and they have a reputation for Sierra cement. Also no 4,000 vert resorts in Tahoe. I hope they get serious snow soon. This last storm was kind of a bust.

I'll let you know how the cement is on Thursday........

have you skied there? it's not really inferior. it's an awesome place.

inferior is by definition relative, and relative to the other options, it's inferior.

Hey Doug.... How EXACTLY, is getting to Tahoe harder to get to from the east coast?

(It's LONG coming home, but getting there isn't any harder than anywhere else really, more time consuming but if you aren't skiing on arrival day who cares really)

You hop on a early flight that either connects in Denver,MDW, or Las Vegas pretty much and you drive the hour and a half from Reno-Tahoe to your lodging. Total flight time is 7.5 hrs. and you could be there well before noon if you took the early flight.

Pretty much any resort in Colorado is just as far driving distance from Denver so the only difference is the flight time/ layover (you also get an extra hour time difference) (PHL-Denver flight time is 4.5 hrs)

Jackson Hole can't be accessed from Pa. direct so there is a layover there as well... Airport is closer to the mountain but, it's only one mountain as well..(The absolute Shortest flight is still over 7 hours from PHL)

Doesn't seem all THAT much harder to me.... Just saying... Tahoe is really sick and people that have not actually skied there and discredit it because they've heard of the cement are REALLY missing out. JMO.

(I know you are going out there this season to ski Squaw, (Alpine Meadows is literally right next door), but take a day and head to Kirkwood as well....it's really worth it)

Phillycore I'm gonna be in Tahoe next month. I've skied cement in Jackson hole once or twice. If I want to generalize and say things about places I've never been I can. It's the fucking Internet I can say what I want and I do. Sorry if it offends you I hate on people who hate on blue even though I hate on blue. I hate on Jackson hole locals they probably hate on me..whatever....we ain't living in a nursery rhyme. It's real talk.

You sound a little pissy there Douglas,

Say whatever you want about whatever, whomever, or wherever WTF do I care... I was merely saying that people who discredit places for something they've heard are potentially missing out.

On the same token, I am 100% positive that I don't need to suck on some cock to know that I'm not into it.

Rumor has it that GSS Love's the Cock....

Arriving at noon to me vs 3pm is important to me...3 extra hours of my trip. For me a 730am flight is a late flight..real talk.

Jackson hole is lame. It's only one mountain.

I've been to Jackson, and never one time has anyone ever heard, or read anything coming from me calling it lame.

PHL-RNO Southwest... 6:35am Departure - 10:50am arrival and there's plenty of Casino's around for you to gamble your money at. REAL TAWK, 24/7 Yah Heard

Rumor has it that the best Fish Taco's can be found in Mexico....At least that's what tour guide Juan said when I was in Tulum this past summer...lol

There used to be an EWR-JAC flight, I'm hoping with the merger of UA/CO (which sees lots of traffic to JAC) helps reinstates that route.

FWIW, is there isn't a way to get to RNO with one stop from ABE so for LV travelers it does require traveling to PHL. Jackson, Aspen, Vail, Steamboat, Telluride (via MTJ) are a few that can be done with one stop out of ABE.

You can one stop from ABE to Sacramento, if you are staying on the truckee side this would be almost as close and less chance of weather delays. But no-one should care about this, Jackson is the place to be and the snow here sucks.

Very true.

FWIW, I like Aspen/Snowmass more than JH. Maybe it's the company?

Maybe I should've included this as an option above....

Fly

PHL- SLC (Sat)

Ski 3 days, Snowbird/Alta, Pow Mow, Snowbasin (Sun-Tues)

Take Alltrans Shuttle from SLC-Jackson Hole (Wed, 5 hours $70)

Ski 2 days Jackson Hole (Thurs, Fri.)

Fly JAC-PHL (Sat)

or the reverse....

I could possibly also take the shuttle from Jackson back to SLC on the final day and fly round trip from SLC to save bag on bag fees and extra flight cost as well..although this would add 5 hours+ to travel time..... hmmmm options

FWIW--- doing the shuttle round trip from SLC would be $150 cheaper but add 5+ hours onto the travel.... Ugh..

The other option from SLC round trip is to just drive back and forth..... save the $140 shuttle cost, add gas/tolls and extra 3 days rental

As time seems to be more of a limitation than money for this trip, why not wait until January and see where the seasons are shaping up best before making the decision, IMO anywhere (even the canyons) with fresh snow would be preferable to a superior mountain with 20 day old snow.

airfare is significantly cheaper now. plus, some people can't take last minute trips depending on their place of employment. i know that i have too much responsibility to take off and let my colleagues/students hanging. that's why i look for cheap airfare now and then plan places to go once i'm out there and see the snow coming.
