jeff Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 Check out the webcam photos...blowing snow on susquehanna and slalom? hard to tell with the low resolution www.elkskier.com Quote
jeff Posted December 1, 2011 Author Report Posted December 1, 2011 of course as soon as i post this they change the webcam angle so you cant see the whole mountain Quote
Ride Delaware ? Posted December 1, 2011 Report Posted December 1, 2011 I doubt they had the temps today for that at that hour... Would be nice, but doubtful... SR ran them around the clock on the top 1/3 of the mountain... Quote
Winter Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 Looks like a slight break in the weather mid-week, with cold enough temps but barely, which Bear and blue will see warmer with rain. Quote
Ride Delaware ? Posted December 2, 2011 Report Posted December 2, 2011 Web Cam? Elk? Huh? There's no longer a daily picture link... It's for a webcam now... Quote
jeff Posted December 3, 2011 Author Report Posted December 3, 2011 they blew last night for sure check webcams Quote
Shadows Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 i just realized you guys have elks and moose in pa. Quote
Shadows Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 i fed a moose a piece of bread in co once. probably the more stupid things ive ever done. Quote
Old Geezer Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 There's no longer a daily picture link... It's for a webcam now... The reason I said that is, for Elk to get a webcam is almost ... modern. Quote

Winter Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 Def. had a bit of snow on the slope when i was up sunday. don't think they are shooting for this weekend, but haven't heard anything as of yet. Cold temps coming! Quote
Ride Delaware ? Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 Def. had a bit of snow on the slope when i was up sunday. don't think they are shooting for this weekend, but haven't heard anything as of yet. Cold temps coming! If you combine all the factors and Elk's opening history, I would say they probably won't open this weekend... They always open Susqy, East/West, and the beginner slope side to side, and while their snowmaking has gotten better, I don't think it's good enough to put down the 24" base they love to have before opening. In years past, even with a late start, they have been more likely to stash the snow and open the following weekend with more options. If this were the week before x-Mas, they might push it, but I doubt you'll see it this weekend... Quote
Winter Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 Yup, pretty acurrate. The real pisser last year was closing with 100% of the slopes still open, with no bare spots on the front that i could see. We closed up the house first week in April and it looked so skiable. I think a lot of pass holders were tweeked bigtime because they closed early. But business is business i guess. 1 Quote
Ride Delaware ? Posted December 12, 2011 Report Posted December 12, 2011 Elk still has the guns on... Gotta love the webcam... They have laid down some serious white... I don't know what the rest of the trails they want to open with look like, but if they look like the base, Wednesday is probably possible... 1 Quote
Old Geezer Posted December 12, 2011 Report Posted December 12, 2011 At lunchtime, their website now says "opening for the season on Wednesday, 12/14, day skiing only, 8:30 - 4:30." Quote
moe ghoul Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 I saw this posted on another site, a little drama unfolding legally. http://thedailyreview.com/news/community-in-dispute-with-elk-mountain-sues-to-block-access-to-snowmaking-pond-1.1248083 Quote

Either way, I hope this gets resolved soon... Elk needs all the access it can get... Sounds like the condo association has an argument though... Quote
rummy Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 Maybe this is what KC was referring to in the Sno thread... That's got to be it. .. Sounds like the condo association has an argument though... Interesting..this battle has gone on for years. The regulars can't believe the mtn would deny that access for the Village. I know several people who have boycotted the mtn for this reason, and many others don't spend a dime on anything but the skiing..only because they love the sport. Quote
jeff Posted December 24, 2011 Author Report Posted December 24, 2011 ive talked to people on snowmaking up there...apparently this pond in question doesnt even get used for snowmaking. elk just spent a ton of money building several new snowmaking ponds across the road from the mountain. I dont think blocking access to the shared pond would really do much. all talk Quote
Ride Delaware ? Posted December 25, 2011 Report Posted December 25, 2011 What's the snowmaking plan? They've ha some decent temps recently... Look like any new terrain for the big week? Quote
jeff Posted December 25, 2011 Author Report Posted December 25, 2011 if anything they will have upper/ lower tunk, and smaller trails liek hiawatha and tioga spur. but thats about it Quote
Quickturns Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 Is anyone up at Elk this week? I am heading up Friday for Winterfest and am curious how they are making out with their snowmaking. It looks they have had a few good days weatherwise but it doesn't seem to have translated into additional open terrrain. Does anyone know if they are blowing on everything or just a few trails at this point. Quote

They will concentrate on several trails and open them... I would expect several more trails by the weekend... Quote
