guitar73 Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 last nite mrs guitar and i hit up bear creek for the first time this season. it was def nice having a season pass; saved some time by not having to go to the ticket window etc. anyhow, we left our house around 5:50-ish and pulled into the parking lot around 6:50PM. as we came up the driveway it was nice to see the hill covered in white goodness and the lifts spinning. we got a sweet parking spot close to the rental shop. didn't bother with the lockers, just booted up at the car. we were all set and on the lift by 7:00PM. Temps were probably around 28 deg. (of particular note: they didn't blow snow at all while we were there....very suspect IMHO). There were no lift lines to speak of and the trails were not crowded at all. Snow around the base area was nice...def not the same stuff that they blow at blue mtn. we took the B-lift to the top and worked our way down to F-lift via broadway. the trail had good coverage up top, but it was a little narrow. eventhough there weren't a ton of people on the trail, several choke points developed. next we took the F-lift to the top and did another lap. after the third time we decided to hit up the B-lift area, and that's where we spent the rest of our nite. we did quite a few laps down kodiak. there was a nice headwall where kodiak and bear trap meet. i def hit that up to kinda practice going over cornices. anyhow, we really liked kodiak b/c it was wide and uncrowded...a great place to get some good practice in and to knock of the rust (so to speak). i was bummed that sasquatch wasn't open yet.....they had a couple of monster whalebacks there that looked like they would be really fun to hit. around 8:30 we went inside to get some coffee and tea. i do have to say that the base lodge @ bc makes the season pass cost totally worth it, lol. once we got done with the hot refreshments we went back out side and did a few more runs. called it a nite at 9:30PM. all in all we had a great time and the mrs and i look forward to getting some more practice runs in there. we'll probably try to get back there next monday or so. mollyskeeze Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 glad you had fun and the trails weren't crowded on one of the typical ski trip nights. hoping the entire mountain will be open by the weekend. Quote
Ride Delaware ? Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 Nice report and 28 degrees is not cold enough for BC to blow snow. Depends on the humidity, but you knew that... Unfortunately we have a relatively high humidity on the EC, so yes, probably too warm and/or not cost effective... Quote
guitar73 Posted January 6, 2012 Author Report Posted January 6, 2012 Depends on the humidity, but you knew that... Unfortunately we have a relatively high humidity on the EC, so yes, probably too warm and/or not cost effective... i suppose it also depends on what quality of snow they want to blow. i wasn't sure what the rel humidity was last nite, but it wasn't muggy at all and there was very little cloud cover. if bc is going to wait until the lo 20's to the hi teens to blow then they are going to get screwed on the average winter. it's just way to far south to take that kind of gamble. i'm willing to bet blue mtn was blowing last nite..... guitar73 Posted January 6, 2012 Author Report Posted January 6, 2012 at Blue they blow when it's 31-33degrees. exactly Quote
guitar73 Posted January 6, 2012 Author Report Posted January 6, 2012 What does TC in the title mean? that was a typo....should be TR. sorry! Quote
Mixilplix Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 The snow at BC last night was way better than any of the snow I've seen at Blue this year. Quote
burton71 Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 At BC they dont blow when it's 28 degrees..at Blue they blow when it's 31-33degrees. Maybe that is why the snow at Blue sucks. Quote
guitar73 Posted January 6, 2012 Author Report Posted January 6, 2012 Maybe that is why the snow at Blue sucks. like i said before, bc and blue mtn are way too far south to only blow snow in the lo 20's and teens. they have to deal with that. obviously blue mtn has made it a priority to get the slopes open no matter what. it seems bc has different priorities. burton71 Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 Their snow lasts and their snow is really good now. Blue blows solid base snow but later in the season they blow pixie dust. Nope sorry, their snow is the worst in the area. Quote
