You know Hawaii buys homeless people one way tickets to the main land. And when they get to Cali they buy them grayhound bus tickets. Alaska has a big homeless problem due to high cost of living and a large prevalence of alcoholism. It's sad but there are lots of jobs out there and some homeless have jobs but can't afford rent. Places like Boulder are welcoming to all..they should take in some Syrian refugees as well..they'll open up take middle eastern restaurants

The Lehigh valley has a colder climate than Boulder and it precipitates a lot more here. Boulder isn't as good for homeless as Florida or Southern California but it's a far cry from NYC and Chicago. Empty houses outnumber homeless 6:1..the utilitarian in me would say why not give them foreclosed homes..and some are bought up by rescue missions and such. Why should they be given homes? And who would pay taxes and who would maintain the homes?

Florida has the best oranges and Hawaii the best avacados. All I have here is dingleberries

Shadows- if you want to try a beach that is not too crowded, try Island Beach State Park. They only allow certain number of cars in, you pay per car at the entrance. Much cheaper than any of the other Jersey beaches. There is a swimming beach, surfing and fishing beach. State trying to keep it as natural as possible, so it's really nice. It is a state park, so no drinking on the beach.

Only been to the casino twice now. Shops like 3 times.

I used to go a lot in my bad gambling days. Since then only been a handful of times mainly to eat, drink and slot it up. I give them props for a good variety of restaurants. Shops are meh but I do all my shopping at Target and Kohls.

Casino was pretty busy but not packed. I've been there some times when it's so hard to move on the casino floor. I went because I had to go to the mall.

I know a girl who works in the Just Born store there. You know the Sands is gonna become an MGM casino soon...and the sale is gonna give the city of Bethlehem and the school district more Johnny Cash..

Ive always wanted to meet the mayor so i can go "hey, youre mayor Don chez"

Donchez was my AP American government teacher in 12th grade. I know like half the people running for mayor of Allentown. One of them comments on my ski pictures and another was my high school principal and sometimes buys me drinks when I see him out.

Ha, I teach AP and used to coach Quiz Bowl. Now I oversee Model Congress and help with Robotics. I love the students; they are all way smarter than I ever was or am. :-)   The competitive robotics kids will rule us all in ten years.

(I am injured and not allowed to do ANYTHING remotely fun, hence trawling ski boards in late April....Glad there are others here!)

Hey SweetPlanks...PASR stays somewhat active during the summer. Not 100-200 posts per day like during ski season but only. Few days usually go by with no posts and by August people start talking about gear and trips for the next ski season. Plus people do cool things over the summer and try new beers that they feel like posting about.

It's cool that you're a teacher. One of my good friends teaches in philly and she's super into it. It's got it's pros and cons vs a job where you are only around adults. I guess a cool thing about being a teacher is that you're the boss. No doubt the smart kids in the next generation are even smarter. Did you know right now there are 6 generations living in America. First and oldest are the greatest generation which were born before the Great Depression. There aren't many of them left so when I see videos of 90 year old skiing it's cool and a few of them even have iPhones. I know they're in my office every week.

Then you have the silent generation born between the Great Depression and the end of world war 2...1929-1945..Most of them are grandparents to older kids and young adults and due to a robust economy doing their prime earning years and conservative spending habits they're the wealthiest generation in America. The kids of the greatest generation and the older silent generation are the baby boomers..they were the largest generation before the millenials as birth rates skyrocketed after world war 2. They're the first generation to indulge in mass consumerism as they were the first generation to grow up with TV sets. Baby boomers now range in age from the middle aged to senior citizens and many face the stress of having to help out elderly parents and adult children at the same time along with grandchildren. They're retiring a lot later than their parents in general.

Then you have generation X, which is a smaller generation as birth rates dropped in the 60s and 70s. They are the children of older baby boomers and the silent generation. They are the first generation to see their parents divorce enmasse as the divorce rate doubled during the 70s and 80s. Many in generation X have hit a glass ceiling in the workplace as their baby boomer bosses aren't retiring.

Then you have the millenials which is the largest generation in America. They are also the poorest generation in America due to the decline in blue collar jobs and stagnent wages in other occupations. The 18-34 demographic was once the coveted demographic of advertisers but due to ballooning student loan debt and a lackluster job market. Now millenials are starting to have kids as well and those kids and the younger gen X kids are generation Z or the igeneration. School aged kids today only know technology. The iPhone came out when a high school student was 5 years old. 77% of 12-17 year olds own a cell phone today. When I was that age was like 2% only the kids on Beverly Hills 90210.

Great analysis!  There's a lot of overlap between generations, too. I'm Gen-X, but my parents were born in the 1930s.  Also, when we talk about "the sixties" culturally, we realy mean the period from about 1965 to 1973 or 4.

Yeah, the push for no-fault divorce combined with more opportunities for women to support themselves economically, independent of a spouse, dramatically increased divorce rates. Not necessarily a bad thing at all, and in the case of abusive or negligent spouses/parents, a pretty solid good thing.

My tenth grade students were born in 2000 and 2001, so I won't be teaching any more 20th century kids!

Re your last para; Reaganomics.
