As much as I want it to be, my neighborhood is not yet skiable. I went up the hill to the wilderness boundary. Uphill was ok. 10’ downhill and crunch crunch of rocks. So i side walked down.

my uphill neighbor’s off grid shed/cabin. He lived here all summer but moved out when the snow started. Beyond the cabin is the Ragged’s Wilderness boundary

I don’t like Copper early season as that one run really funnels into a skinny shit show at the bottom. I really want to ski but will wait until more runs are open.  If Aspen or Snowmass fills in more I may do a skin up before they open for the season. They have such a great uphill policy.

Until two days ago it was 80 degrees here…Aspen should get going by thanksgiving…it’s cool you’ve had some snow at least.

The daily happenings of living rural. The road off the highway to my neighborhood is 4 miles of twisties. Some sections are always icy because they don’t get sun.  A propane truck skid off the road into the river the other day.  Surprisingly the driver was just banged up.  Yesterday they closed the road all day to extract the truck.

My friend from Denver asked if she took a personal day from work, would I meet her at Copper. Took about 2 hours 20 min and as I pulled into the free lot with a line of cars, she was right behind me, good timing!  Parking was very full but the runs were not.

First run off the American flyer  lift and it was in the shade (and a popular lift) and it was all scraped off and icy. Blech. We decided to try and find some better snow. We went on American Eagle lift and the one above that and the snow was so much better. Did mostly all ungroomed runs all morning. Lift lines were about 1-2 minutes and never full chairs.

Making snow all over the place for the holiday.

Last run we did the bumps were bigger then expected.

Her and I both got the CARV gen 2 on their Black Friday sale. I have only used it 2 days but love all the info and stats it provides. 4th ski day wearing my mesh base layer and can confirm its awesomeness for keeping you dry.

Would not make a habit out of the long drive to ski, but it was great to not ski alone. No snow in the forecast which is a bummer.

Been using the Carv since the middle of last season and love it. The new sensors are much better and the user interface is much more intuitive. I use active coach about half the time and just the Ski IQ callout after each section with chairlift review the other half so I can listen to my tunes. Really helped my skiing. Only skiing groomers at Blue, so would be interesting to know how the new off piste coaching is.

There is a lot to dial in. Still figuring out all the features. But so far it has not identified when I am skiing bumps. It always says terrain is groomed. I think it is pretty cool it knows what resort you are skiing and even the individual runs. My friend tried the active coach yesterday but she found it distracting after a while so just took out her ear bud. Seems like a good tool.

I like to set it on ski IQ and tips, so it gives you a good beep or bad beep after each turn. And then when you stop for 10 seconds or so, it gives you your ski IQ for that run. No bumps at blue yet. Still probably most useful on groomers, and also on easier groomers I get the highest scores. But it’s hard to get into the Zen headspace when it’s on.
