sibhusky Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 Avalanches force lift closures at Bridger Bowl WHITNEY BERMES, Chronicle StaffWriter _ Posted: Tuesday, March 27, 2012 2:44 pm A series of natural and manmade avalanches prompted Bridger Bowl officials to close all but two lifts Tuesday afternoon. A combination of overnight rain and 9 inches of wet snow prompted the lift closures, said Michael Gill, assistant director of marketing and sales for Bridger Bowl. ³It makes for a fairly dangerous situation,´ Gill said. ³It was just not safe to ski the upper mountain.´ Lift closures will continue Wednesday. The only lifts open will be Snow Flake, Quad and Bridger to midway. Lift tickets on Tuesday and Wednesday are $20. Gill said the size and severity of Tuesday's avalanches are unusual for March. ³This year is totally out of the ordinary,´ Gill said. ³It always gets warm this time of year, but not this warm and not with rain falling. It just creates a bad situation.´ Pictures on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150756672175639.456040.219783875638&type=3 Quote
Johnny Law Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 I heard Morning Glory went almost all the way to south bowl, crazy shit, slushman's and that kind of stuff would be a real meat grinder +1 to patrol on keeping people safe. Quote
AngryHugo Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 scary stuff. that snow looked really wet and heavy. it'd be tough to survive a slide like that. good on the patrollers. Quote
sibhusky Posted March 28, 2012 Author Report Posted March 28, 2012 He's probably still scoring last seasons freshies. Near as I can tell, he's mentally moving to summer kayaking. Quote
