poconoceancity Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 As most of you know I have been hanging at Eagle Rock for the last 5 years with my girls. Next season I will have an 8, 6 and 3 year old on the slopes. We are tired of Eagle Rock and would like to try something new for a couple of seasons before moving on to JFBB. Has anyone ever been to Alpine Mountain near CB? From what I have read it seems to be a great place for beginners with no crowds and wide open top to bottom greens and blues. I may investigate on president's weekend unless anyone on here thinks it's not worth it. Quote
poconovfr Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 Super beginer area. New owners. Have not been there in some time but I understand they are putting some money into the area. Be a great stepping stone for JFBB. Quote
toast21602 Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 honestly, do you really need a stepping stone to ski JFBB? 3 Quote
sibhusky Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 What I've heard about it is the lack of crowds at Alpine makes it ideal beginner territory. I think it can get pretty nuts at JF especially. Quote
rgrwilco Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 Went last week. Basically just straight trails with all the same pitch but labeled with different difficulties. No park to speak of. Bottom part of two trails have a really steep headwall, but im not sure if its actually steep or just significantly steeper than the rest. lifts are old and make strange noises and the lodge is a dump. RidgeRacer Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 (edited) At least they have MILFs. Edited January 22, 2013 by Ridge Racer Quote
Ride Delaware ? Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 honestly, do you really need a stepping stone to ski JFBB? My 3 year old does...it's mostly the crowds that concern me. I've only been to several PA areas, but I kind of felt like they were all a zoo on weekends... I guess I shouldn't stereotype... My cousins went there about 5 years ago, maybe longer, when they were younger, and seemed to really enjoy it... I doubt they would enjoy it as much now because of their age, but hey, to some people, skiing is skiing... Quote
trackbiker Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 I went there a few years ago for a night session. Great beginners area. Nothing too difficult there. I would recommend that you go Pres. Weekend and see what you think for yourself. Quote
Johnny Law Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 Holy shit look at that fucking "quad" chair.....looks like two doubles and welder hahahah Hopefully its a full stock YAN so it falls to the ground and kills alot of people sometime soon, my guess is they don't do a whole lot of maintenance. From the look of the building its a full YAN, would have to look up into the mechanicals to see if it got the late 70's leightner/poma treatment but I'd go 30% they didn't. Would not want to spend alot of time on those fucking things. Quote

Thanks for pointing out the lifts...I think I would have a hard time getting a 3 and 6 year old on there if there is a divider in the middle. Quote
Barb Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 (edited) POC I don't think you need a stepping stone to JFBB. Put the 3 year old in snowmonsters and ride around with the other 2 kids. When my kids were that young we started at BB mostly, but that was before they put park features on every trail. If you can go up every weekend I would think about putting the older 2 in the race program. Can't say enough good things about it. Coaches are great with the kids and they really progress fast. I feel your pain, I remember when I had to lift both of them up to get on the lift, no fun indeed. Edited January 23, 2013 by Barb Quote
