Mixilplix Posted March 20, 2013 Report Posted March 20, 2013 Are you going to the EpicSki gathering? Got like 45 of them meeting up down at Bridger, Big Sky, and Moonlight starting maybe Sunday? Too expensive an outing for me. I'm just going to hang with some buds that teach at YSC.... Quote
burton71 Posted March 20, 2013 Report Posted March 20, 2013 Today, blue bird all day long. Snow wonderful in AM, but increasingly heavy and starting to set up when I left. Very jealous. All these pics definitely make me want to check this place out. 1 Quote
indiggio Posted March 21, 2013 Report Posted March 21, 2013 Sib, Came across this article. Know him? http://www.flatheadbeacon.com/articles/article/frosts_vertical_feat/32445 Quote
sibhusky Posted March 21, 2013 Author Report Posted March 21, 2013 I don't even need to look at the link. All about my buddy Fred... Who I rarely ski with because he's like a machine... God forbid you stop half way down to talk... Unless it's to my daughter, who he seems to have a "thing" for... Of course, the mountain community here is pretty small.. Pretty much all of the people in the top 100 at least know the other ones by name. 1 Quote
sibhusky Posted March 22, 2013 Author Report Posted March 22, 2013 Not tremendously scenic today. Quite cold due to high winds, so almost no one there. Wind on the front blew things right down to the hardpack in many places and where the snow landed it was quite dense. After it gets stirred up it'll be nice, but it took effort to go off piste today. 1 Quote
sibhusky Posted March 22, 2013 Author Report Posted March 22, 2013 Now hearing that there were all of 911 skiers today... spread across 3000 acres. 1 Quote
sibhusky Posted March 22, 2013 Author Report Posted March 22, 2013 (edited) Alternating sun and snow all day today. Edited March 22, 2013 by sibhusky Quote
sibhusky Posted March 24, 2013 Author Report Posted March 24, 2013 Another day of sun and fog, but not enough snow to make a difference. Groomer day. Quote
sibhusky Posted March 25, 2013 Author Report Posted March 25, 2013 some friends are out there now and posting some great pics as well. stop 1 on a whole montana tour - gonna have to put that on the must do list! Are they back yet? Did they have a good trip? I've done several Epic Ski tours this season, one more today and another on Wednesday. 1 Quote
sibhusky Posted March 26, 2013 Author Report Posted March 26, 2013 Glorious blue bird day! If we can't have powder, then let's have this! 2 Quote
sibhusky Posted March 26, 2013 Author Report Posted March 26, 2013 Another blue bird day, but temps started higher in the AM, so things were getting slushy by 1 PM. Brought out all the nuts, and a ton of anklebiters. Sorry, I guess I am a spring grouch, prefer frigid, windy weather with FRESH SNOW to this stuff. 2 Quote
mbike-ski Posted March 27, 2013 Report Posted March 27, 2013 Are they back yet? Did they have a good trip? I've done several Epic Ski tours this season, one more today and another on Wednesday. They had blast, tons of pow with some bluebird! They hit whitefish, disco, big sky and maybe bridger. I need to stop looking at yours and their pics - as good as conditions have been here it seems so lame.... 1 Quote
sibhusky Posted March 27, 2013 Author Report Posted March 27, 2013 That's quite a tour, how long were they gone? Quote
sibhusky Posted March 28, 2013 Author Report Posted March 28, 2013 Finally got to Gray's Golf Course. Grizzly habitat, so closing soon. Quote
toast21602 Posted March 28, 2013 Report Posted March 28, 2013 nice picture (again). I think I'm gonna hit up a golf course tomorrow as well. Quote
sibhusky Posted March 29, 2013 Author Report Posted March 29, 2013 Day 70, my "goal" day. Had it all today: Sun, fog, rain, snow, graupel, hardpack, slush. 1 Quote
sibhusky Posted March 31, 2013 Author Report Posted March 31, 2013 Just a picture, the only one I took. I am not a fan of spring skiing... Quote
sibhusky Posted April 1, 2013 Author Report Posted April 1, 2013 (edited) Boo. More sun. Place is getting to be a swamp. Edited April 1, 2013 by sibhusky 1 Quote
sibhusky Posted April 3, 2013 Author Report Posted April 3, 2013 Conditions are such that every day I've got to be convinced to take a second run, so...not sure if this is the last pic of the year or not. Tried my powder skis in the slush today and it seemed to improve the swamp skiing, so maybe I will ski another day or so... Quote
guitar73 Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 (edited) I don't like skiing in soupy snow either, but it sure is nice to have the sun out and to not be all bundled up. besides, it makes for great pictures Edited April 4, 2013 by guitar73 Quote
sibhusky Posted April 4, 2013 Author Report Posted April 4, 2013 The good skiing seems to be lasting until about noon. Quote
sibhusky Posted April 5, 2013 Author Report Posted April 5, 2013 (edited) Not sure about "normal", but worse than last few years. I keep meaning to do a look up for snowfall and base going back in time. I know it's the worst since 09-10. Oh, and probably won't make 1.3 mill. It was forecast to be pouring today so I didn't go up. 100% probability, but...guess what... wasn't that bad up there. Showers if anything, but mostly sun near as I can tell. Will go on a SATURDAY (gasp) to make up for it. But...can't make myself ski longer days when conditions are getting hazardous, so will probably miss that 1.3 by a few feet. sibhusky Posted April 5, 2013 Author Report Posted April 5, 2013 (edited) Looked up what was available. To date this year, 256 and 96. So, yes, not a stellar year. But, the base depth has been worse on closing day. Of course, that's in two days, so if the weather doesn't cut it out, the numbers could get worse. Fortunately, they are calling for snow. We'll see. sibhusky Posted April 5, 2013 Author Report Posted April 5, 2013 (edited) Before someone starts on about snow depths vs. snow fall.... The snow fall number is whatever the depth is on opening day without any regard to how much snowfall came in the prior months. Then they start adding daily new snow fall to that settled base starting point. Other mountains start counting their snow with the first storm in October and never report that all that stuff melted before the base started holding. They don't do it that way here. If we get a foot in October, and it melts, it is NOT included. Only the remains of that foot that are still around on Dec. 8 or whatever are included. Edited April 5, 2013 by sibhusky Quote
sibhusky Posted April 6, 2013 Author Report Posted April 6, 2013 Today. Snushing most of the time, but also had rain and graupel. Terrific soft snow, great fun. Sibby's in her glory in weather that sends most running home. Quote
