Phoebe lift vertical is 610' according to skilifts.org.

How can you get different vertical for different trails off of the same lift? Aren't you skiing from the top of the lift to the bottom of the lift no matter which trail you take?

Are they starting to calculate for Canonball down below that little connector trail maybe?

I imagine there is a certain margin of error when using GPS signals to compute these things

I can't find where on skilifts.org they provide these stats. Can you provide a link?

EDIT: I did find it on this page http://www.skilifts.org/old/install_na1984.htm

There they list it as 580 feet

EDIT 2: OK then it appears again on the survey did three years later as 610 feet

Thanks, how does your phone do that? Is there an Android app that can measure vertical?

"Ski Tracks". I think Schif said it's like $1.29 or something like that for Android.

It's a cool app, it automatically lays all your runs and lift rides out on a map (which can be satellite image), inserts an icon on the map at the exact spot you took the picture, tracks vert and top speed amongst other things.

You can see how it adds the lift rides in, which like I said, the app does itself.

There is a margin of error in the vert statistics, looking back at my last day riding the average vert for the quad was 570 feet. The tracking of your path is scary accurate though, you can usually tell what side of the trail you went down and everything.

I may have done the Cannonball run from mid-mountain (starting at the base of the bunny hill) rather than the top of the lift, I don't remember. Edited by riderossi

Thanks. I was just wondering why it would calculate a different vert for all of the north face trails when you're skiing from the top of the lift to the bottom of the lift on every trail. Did you ski to the Long Haul? I think that is a little higher than the Phoebe.

Long Haul is indeed higher, but for that run I went back to the quad. It also looks like I started at the top of the quad for the cannonball run also, so there is a 56 foot discrepancy between the two runs with the same start and finish point.

Seeing as how the app automatically tracks the differences between your runs and your lift rides, I could see some error maybe happening there. A couple feet extra added to the lift ride when you are actually on the snow and the same when getting on the lift maybe...but the vert is still going up and down so who knows. It's close enough to keep a general idea of your day, not exact enough to be science apparently.

Thanks for all the info RideRossi. Easier to get answers from you folks than from anyone at the mountain, that's for sure.

Given the margin of error, I think a fair estimate is 600, as additional digits would imply a degree of accuracy which is not present.

Up here now. Measured it to 603.4 with my super duper altometer that was given to me by the navy seals. Also, I'm drunk. Also, I'm drunk. Also, I'm drunk.

Got drunk, just woke up from nap. Honey Amber.
