RidgeRacer
Got here at 5ish. The snow is sloppy mashed potatoes aka nice spring conditions. Lots of bumps, divots, slush in spots. Thin cover as well on a lot of trails. Blue had more / better snow on Thursday. Hard to get speed since everything is bumped up even cliffhanger. The mountain coaster looks cool. Lots of people are riding it. I feel like I'm skiing at knoebels. I'm not crazy about it. I was seriously thinking about picking up the value pass but now I'm thinking otherwise. I kinda miss frost right now. Anyway off to the waffle cabin for a snack.
RidgeRacer
Snow is getting firm. Like glacial ice (Robert2 homage there)
Schif
I was up there all day, got in around 10:30 am and just got home now. I probably passed you at some point and didn't even know it Ridge Racer. Snow was great in the morning, but then got pretty sloppy after about 1 or 2. Definitely the kind of day that takes a lot out of your legs, but it was awesome under bright blue skies. I agree that it feels like an amusement park up there. There is something going on everywhere from music to the mountain coaster, to the zip lines. It feels like the skiing is just another attraction at a big park. moe ghoul
SCamelback's really changed since I used to rent a place up there. If they build that hotel (have they started yet?) maybe they'll get a casino license and pack the joint with slot machines and bus in the silver heads. Awesome ski stoke! RidgeRacer
Schif my bad. I was going to post to see if anyone was gonna be there. But thats exactly how I felt. Skiing is just another thing that they do there. Water slides, zip lines, the coaster, the Rhianna blasting. Crazy. I'm literally riding the lift and there are people riding a roller coaster under my feet. I was waiting for PT Barnum to unveil king tusk the Ugandan elephant, and the zebra from Madagascar to break out in a rendition of "Afro circus". No pass for me there. I was almost lured in by the $199 deal. Not happening As for the skiing. It was OK. Mashed potatoes turned into Sierra cement as the night went on. Nile mile was the run of the night. Cliffhanger got icy in the troughs later on. King tut was nice. Pharoe (sp?) was thin and crusty. Meh Moe I think the hotel idea is on hold or not gonna happen. Not sure which. Looks like they broke ground on it though. Edited March 31, 2013 by Ridge Racer
Schif
Another thing I found a little odd about Camelback now, since I haven't been there in a few years, was how small the mountain skied. From an acreage point of view, the place is massive, but once you get out there, there just aren't that many ways down the mountain. Runs get repetitive pretty quickly there. Also, the system they have for the terrain parks is absolutely ridiculous. The entire middle section of the mountain is now a series of 5 different parks which have been fenced off from all the other trails! Not that I'm a park rat, but I like to cruise and hit a nice jump line or a rail or two sometimes. Can't do it at Camelback. In order to get into the parks, you need to ride a lift that services them directly, but you can't get on that lift without a park pass, which costs $10! Just another reason it feels like an amusement park, they let you in after you pay a ton of money, but then there are certain extras that they hit you up for once you're in. That's crazy to me, especially since they seem to have gotten the concept right by building small, medium and large parks. I can understand the concept of a park pass (If it's free) to get into a big park, that makes sense, but to keep me (a wily veteran) out of even the small and medium ones is just garbage. Is that the lift with the graffiti and shit at the loading station? I lol'd at that. And it definitely skis smaller than it looks.
RidgeRacer
Camelback has never been as good as Blue..front trails are only 600 very and get flat quick. There's nothing fast like nightmare to dreamweaver or Switchback. I might go for the alien thing though. I agree.

RidgeRacer
I got the impression that the mountain coaster is for non skiers / boarders to experience gravity pulling you down a mountain without having to actually ski / ride it. IMO If you want to go fast down a mountian there should be one or two pieces of wood attached to your feet. Otherwise you have no business being on it (except in the non ski season then I'm ok with it.) But in the Spring, Summer or fall why wouldnt you just go to Knoebels, Dorney Hershey etc? RidgeRacer
I personally don't care if people are enjoying non skiing activities on a mountain during the winter as long as it doesn't affect my skiing. Maybe some of the mountain coaster people's, especially kids will want to try skiing. The same with tubing. It's a vibe killer for me. Different strokes I guess. AtomicSkier
I'm glad Blue's water park won't be visible from the trails...that always bothered me at CB. Is the coverage good enough to last until Saturday?

Park passes are great, keeps gapers out. I'll gladly pay $10 to not ride in the shit show that BC and Blue parks turn into when it gets crowded. Small park should be open to everyone. Medium and large parks should be park passes only.

Is the coverage good enough to last until Saturday? Should be OK next weekend. They'll probably be running the Sullivan lift only. Pharoe and the crossover trails were hurting. Cliffy and Nile seemed OK. I may try to get there at some point during the week. Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
