Ride Delaware ? Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 Saturday did suck, but Thursday and Friday were awesome days in the sun that I'd like to repeat. For me, half the allure of the spring is the sun and parking lot brews. It's nice to be able to get some runs in, but I go for the whole experience. I think I went to CB my senior year of college on the 7th or 8th of April, which was pretty sweet, even if the snow wasn't. Quote
rgrwilco Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 I hate camelback more and more each season, but the passes are so cheap. 1 Quote
Ride Delaware ? Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 I hate camelback more and more each season, but the passes are so cheap. They haven't made any major changes in 15 + years, and there's only so much you can do to hype the existing mountain. It's tough to get excited. Quote
RidgeRacer Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 I hate camelback more and more each season, but the passes are so cheap. They almost lured me with the $199 deal. I had $200 ready last March when I went on my Alien pass. I even said to myself, I'll just go purchase it later after skiing. Thank God because I remembered that I was at CB and I cant stand it (the vibe mostly) there. The snow was bad that day, my Daughter was struggling big time, and there were tourists riding a freaking roller coaster under my feet when I rode the lift. I ran out of there as fast as I could. I do like parts of the mountain. Pharoah, NIle Mile and cliffy are fun trails but that's really all it has going for it. It's funny because it's the area I think, That area is "The Poconos" for lots of out of Staters. I went to Big Pocono this summer for what I thought would be a nice quiet picnic with the fam - Wrong. Is was a zoo even up there. No tables to be found, loud people etc etc. Quote
poconovfr Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 Have u ever skied camelback with PASRs? Blue invades the place and outskis their locals. Are there locals at cb? Every time I go its filled with gaper tourists. Yes there are locals and no we don't ski on weekends and obviously we were not around when you guys came to play. There will be no "outskiing" of Camelback locals at Camelback. Nuf Sed. 2 Quote

poconovfr Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 Blue locals are used to more challenging terrain than camelback so it's just that much easier at the cameltoe. Dude that's like comparing handicap ramps. You guys used to ski on half that mountain and park at the top. 2 Quote

PS not get all rain man on you like Ride DE remembering everything about every poster on PASR but didn't you ditch CB for Shawnee? 3 Quote

sibhusky Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) Finally, a description of Doug I can agree with.. I'm more rain man than anybody on here. Edited October 14, 2013 by sibhusky 6 Quote
poconovfr Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) nah we don't need a skioff but a drink off....LET'S DO IT!!! I ski the weekends at Shawnee and midweek at the crack. No need to deal with zoo on the weekends. And once again comparing pocono ski areas it's sorta rain manish. Edited October 14, 2013 by poconovfr 2 Quote
AngryHugo Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 nah we don't need a skioff but a drink off....LET'S DO IT!!! I support this event fully. I've only been to Camelback a handful of times, but I always had fun there. Hopefully the new owners will get behind the winter activities on the mountain. 1 Quote

poconovfr Posted October 15, 2013 Report Posted October 15, 2013 Hahaha.. The crack... Lol. I thought that was Mountain Creek. Last couple years it's begining to look and feel like it too. If I was closer to Blue I'd prolly have a pass there. Shawnee is about 7 minutes from my place and Camelback about 17 minutes and working at one of the shops gets me a full bivvy pass at the crack for a buc thirtry. Can't pass that up. Quote
Ride Delaware ? Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 Saw in several news sites that Camelback has started the hotel/waterpark and they expect it to open by next Christmas... Likely won't lead to any eastern expansion, but it would be nice since that direction has their best terrain... Quote
paxonpro Posted November 8, 2013 Report Posted November 8, 2013 see article below.... it seems that the buyer is the same company which owns JFBB and they will be keeping the current Management team http://www.firsttracksonline.com/2013/10/12/camelbacks-buyer-steps-forward/ Quote
poconoceancity Posted November 8, 2013 Report Posted November 8, 2013 It would be nice if passes from jfbb could be used at cb and vice versa . 1 Quote
sibhusky Posted November 8, 2013 Report Posted November 8, 2013 They call the ski areas "metro ski areas". In other words, it's never going to be anything really neat... Quote
Ride Delaware ? Posted November 8, 2013 Report Posted November 8, 2013 Interesting. That would be an awesome "Pocono" pass for those in the area. Quote
poconoceancity Posted November 8, 2013 Report Posted November 8, 2013 Great for me. Hit cb during the week when it's not packed, jf on Saturdays and bb sun mornings for a quick am session before heading back to oc. 1 Quote
RidgeRacer Posted November 8, 2013 Report Posted November 8, 2013 Ugh I hate that terminology . The words Metro and ski area or "ski park" as they call it should never be used in the same sentence. Skiing is about getting away. Another reason to stay away from Camelback. 2 Quote
sibhusky Posted November 9, 2013 Report Posted November 9, 2013 I agree. We're 2.5 hours from an interstate here. The population of our county (which is 60% of the size of the STATE of NJ) is all of 90,000. 5.3 million are sitting in the same space over in NJ. Quote
RidgeRacer Posted November 9, 2013 Report Posted November 9, 2013 So much corny in this... “the convenience of a daily accessible ski experience without the expense of air travel. We see an opportunity to make the ski experience more accessible, so we bring the mountain to the skier. Our metropolitan ski parks turn downhill enthusiasm into uphill advantages, creating a sustainable competitive advantage,” its website explains. 1) WTF is a metropolitan ski park? 2) are they really suggesting that Camelback is an alternative to flying out west? Its crap like this that make me appreciate areas like Elk despite their tree parole. 1 Quote

It has seemed to me for the past few years, and this really confirms it, that ski areas here in PA (with the exception of a few) are run like amusement parks. Shuttle them in, keep them there long enough to buy an expensive lunch and grab some rental charges, and then ship them back to the city. Quote
