poconoceancity Posted November 15, 2013 Report Posted November 15, 2013 Hey guys, what's the name of the cable carrier in Towamensing trails? Thanks. Quote
toast21602 Posted November 15, 2013 Report Posted November 15, 2013 i have to get Service Electric when I move in a few weeks. Not too pumped on them. Quote
poconoceancity Posted November 15, 2013 Author Report Posted November 15, 2013 I'm surprised Comcast isn't up there. Quote
toast21602 Posted November 15, 2013 Report Posted November 15, 2013 I'm surprised Comcast isn't up there. My options are Service Electric or Verizon/Direct TV Quote
AtomicSkier Posted November 15, 2013 Report Posted November 15, 2013 I've always had Service Electric. Why not RCN? Because when Flyers are on Comcast SportsNet, the Phillies are on the Comcast channel, which RCN doesn't carry. 1 Quote
Kyle Posted November 15, 2013 Report Posted November 15, 2013 Service electric suckkkkssss. Only good thing about them is since I'm a student I only pay $50 a month for cable and internet. Between 3 people in my house it's pretty cheap. On the other hand my box broke in September(internal error) took a month to fix. They dropped off a new box, took the old one and the remote and never left a new remote so I called them and still have yet to receive a new remote. It's been 2 months. Plus their service is constantly being interrupted. Quote
RootDKJ Posted November 15, 2013 Report Posted November 15, 2013 comcast is the only cable provider ive ever been impressed with me too 1 Quote
Justo8484 Posted November 15, 2013 Report Posted November 15, 2013 Comcast is not at all just a Philly thing. They're all over the country. While they may offer fast internet speeds, there's a lot of policies of theirs that are pretty terrible from a consumer's perspective, in my opinion. I'm pretty stuck though. It's either comcast or clear for me for internet. I've got clear and get about 8mb/s down, which is kinda slow. The price of quality internet in this area is just all around overpriced. Quote
Ride Delaware ? Posted November 15, 2013 Report Posted November 15, 2013 I have mediacom down here, and it blows donkey dick. Had Time Warner in Maine and was fairly impressed. Downloads were fast and customer service was friendly and quick. Hit it on a promo and got 30 megabit dl for $50. Quote
Kyle Posted November 15, 2013 Report Posted November 15, 2013 Comcast is a Philly thing. I had Comcast in ocmd this summer. There's Comcast in San Jose. Not just a philly thing. Quote
JFskiDan Posted November 15, 2013 Report Posted November 15, 2013 My dealings with Blue Ridge have always been real good. Unlike the carrier i use to have in Philly. Internet here doesnt look quite as awesome as Roots. Quote
indiggio Posted November 15, 2013 Report Posted November 15, 2013 My options are Service Electric or Verizon/Direct TV Ugh, you gonna use SE for Internet too? Quote
toast21602 Posted November 15, 2013 Report Posted November 15, 2013 Ugh, you gonna use SE for Internet too? I guess we have to. As much as I dislike RCN, I kinda want them right now. At least I'll be able to watch almost all of the Union away games since they are generally on TCN. Quote
guitar73 Posted November 15, 2013 Report Posted November 15, 2013 (edited) comcast is the only cable provider ive ever been impressed with i had service electric growing up and i remember it sucking back then. and every time i visit my parents i'm reminded by how much it sucks still. we had comcast for a few years....their speeds are good and consistent. but their prices SUCK...very expensive for what you get. we switched to verizon FIOS for a better price. the only downside is that the FIOS "basic" cable pack doesn't include universal sports HD or the golf channel....womp womp. AtomicSkier Posted November 15, 2013 Report Posted November 15, 2013 We have Adams Cable in the Poconos, and I'll take their internet over Service Electric's any day. Unfortunately, Verizon has said it's not going to expand FiOS into the LV Quote

poconoceancity Posted November 15, 2013 Author Report Posted November 15, 2013 We don't have fios down here either. Comcast is fine if you play their game. Quote

RootDKJ Posted November 15, 2013 Report Posted November 15, 2013 RCN has some great engineering practices, and some really counter-productive ones. They build really nice Headends, and they run a lot of fiber between their Headends. It's their OTN's and outside plant that sucks. Both are very poorly maintained. They're not quick to innovate new technology and tend to go with more cost effective solutions. Rumor is that management disrespects the employees and moral really sucks. Blue Ridge is a pretty good company I hear. Quote
