Johnny Law Posted January 2, 2014 Report Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) The Beast !! First and foremost enjoy the experience, Killy gets a bad rap because it was too popular for it's own good but it is a very nice mtn, from an overall perspective top 5 on the EC. You will probably realize your skills while supreme for PA are short in VT, here you run out of hill before you can get dangerously mach looney that isn't the case in VT. This isn't a knock it's just something you deal with due to geography. A UT head can't ride VT ice, it doesn't mean they aren't a good skier it just means your good at what your used to. Start your day at either Ramshead or Skye Ship, nobody remembers Skye Ship exists so it's generally the least crowded of the lodges, if you don't have a car or something start at Ramshead. Only ride Ramshead for the groomer directly under the lift and only between the hours of 8am-9am and 3pm-4pm, noobs love this side so it gets crowded with idiots. Take a lap on that groomer and then ride the connector all the way over to the K1, get a waffle, peep those views from the peak, if you have time walk up the stairs and check out life from the top. Smoke, meditate, jerk off, whatever your deep thinking thing is and then rip a couple laps on the front blacks, don't forget Julio if it's open. Skip the bullshit on the now crowded K1 and ride Superstar lift, rip big arcs on Superstar and get your steep mogul game on Ovation. Take one more ride up Superstar lift but this time ride Great Eastern all the way to the bottom, it's the best trail in the EC but there's a catch. The first time you ride it you can't maintain enough speed because of all the various junctions and turns, learn them and then take Skye Ship up and do it again. This time ride it like a downhill course, always be carving, get mach looney and take the touchdown variation at the bottom. If you run a pure speed lap with big carves on every turn you will know why it's the best on the EC. Take Skyeship up to the top and run Beartrax to Bearclaw to Skyeburst, get mach looney. Run that lift one more time and run the Stash, keep you eyes peeled because shit is everywhere in their and you might miss a cool tree bonk or whatever. Run Bear Mtn Quad and work you mogul game on Outer Limits and Devil's Fiddle. Lastly work your way back to Snowdon and ride the Snowdon Poma, that shit is the best poma in the world, mofo launches your ass and then run Bunnybuster to mousetrap back to the transfer trail to Ramshead. Drink beer, if by some miracle you find Heady praise Jebus and savor that fucker because it truly is the best IPA in the world. When your done, skip the access road shit, the access road is for suckers and herbs from NY. It is the anomaly of the state, the restaurants suck though some of the gear stores are top fucking notch. Eat at Back Behind Saloon past Skyeship, or Table 24 in Rutvegas, the Palms is pretty decent too. If you must eat on the access road go to Pepino's or something decent. Ride your ass off, bell to bell shit and eat a muffin for lunch on the lift. Soak all that shit in because your gonna need it for when you get back to PA. Enjoy VT and stay awake for the drive, VT is weird in a most wonderful way, there are 1000 towns that are cool as shit that you are gonna want to go back to some day. Signage is poor get used to it. Get pancakes and enjoy real actual maple syrup, it's light years better than that corn shit we eat. Go back to VT and ride Magic, Sucide Six, Stowe, Smuggs, Burke, MCSB and Jay. Ignore Slowkemo, Stratton and Mt. Slow. If you have a girl stay in Burlington and eat at Trattoria Delia, get the Gnocchi as it is the best in the world, do church st and then hold her hair while she gives you the bj of your life. VT is a magical place, a strange respite from the rest of EC America, savor your time there. EDIT: Fuck forgot about Little Harry's..if you have a girl and want to put it in her butt and can't do Trattoria Delia in Burlington go to Little Harry's. Edited January 2, 2014 by Johnny Law 6 Quote
RootDKJ Posted January 2, 2014 Report Posted January 2, 2014 Actually, Rams Head is my go-to parking location. It's the first you get to on the access road, and it's got good lot-to-lift access, and easy to get back to at the end of the day. Lunch - K1 Umbrella bar or Bear. Not so much for the food, but to watch everyone else take their run. Oh, take the Outer Limits lift at least once too. Quote
Kyle Posted January 2, 2014 Author Report Posted January 2, 2014 Thank you mr law that is exactly what I was looking for. Quote
Justo8484 Posted January 3, 2014 Report Posted January 3, 2014 I'm gonna have to disagree with only one aspect of your write-up: food. Outback pizza is bangin. Also it's a slightly mellower weekend spot than wobbly or pickle if you want to go out but you're not into the full on bro show. The place that used to be grist mill was pretty decent last year. Pretty big, good tap selection and reasonable food. Definitely hit up long trail too, if nothing else it's cool to see, their chili is pretty solid, and they sometimes have some brewpub exclusive stuff. Quote
Ride Delaware ? Posted January 3, 2014 Report Posted January 3, 2014 Johnny Law left out Sugarbush. What am missing? Did I choose the only buzzkill in Central VT? Quote
Johnny Law Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 Johnny Law left out Sugarbush. What am missing? Did I choose the only buzzkill in Central VT? Forgot about the bush, castlerock alone is worth the trip. MRG too but I think Kyle rides so that is a no go. Quote
VTSKI Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 If you don’t need any services at the lodges and are OK with booting at your car, the Yale Lot is the place to park. (less walking) After you pass Rams Head and the Medical Clinic you make a right. See Killington area map for the location, Its Lot P. You boot at the car and walk to the Great Northern Trail which will take you to Rams Head. If you need a ticket you can get it there. If you or any of your party has a ski industry courtesy letter from a ski shop they work at or ski patrol/ski school comp letters, you will need to go to Snow Shed ticket windows inside the Snow Shed lodge to get your ticket. Ride Delaware ? Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 I always forget about the Yale lot. I always cruise by it, but it never dawns on me to park there when I can get a sweet spot at Ramshead... Quote
Kyle Posted January 7, 2014 Author Report Posted January 7, 2014 Plans changed. Only riding Monday and Tuesday now so pico is most likely out of the question as we're trying to film a lot of park while there. Saw the stash is opened. Hoping to his that as much as possible. Quote
Mess Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 Great Breakfast at Sugar and Spice on the way to Killington. Worth the ride back towards rutland. Make their own syrup. The killington Deli before you turn on the access road is pretty nice. Quote

The killington Deli before you turn on the access road is pretty nice. Free continental breakfast at the hotel. Plus I'm not a big breakfast person so a bowl of cereal will do. Scored an awesome deal on tickets though. $93 for both days. 4 Quote
Kyle Posted January 12, 2014 Author Report Posted January 12, 2014 Got up here around 3:10 today. Took a ride through the high dollar houses then headed over to long trail for beer and food. Not much to say about the beer because it's all good beer but the food was amazing. Currently sitting in the hotel now doing nothing. Probably going to call it an early night and head out for first chair tomorrow. Should be a good day. Temp is currently hovering around 33 degrees on the access road. 2 Quote
Kyle Posted January 13, 2014 Author Report Posted January 13, 2014 what did you drink? We all bought a sampler which included 6 beers and then I had a traditional ale and a farmhouse ale, which you can only buy there. Quote
Kyle Posted January 13, 2014 Author Report Posted January 13, 2014 Didn't ride yet. Looked like the rain took a toll on them though. It's dipping below 32 tonight so hopefully they can blow and freshen things up. On a none skiing related not it was crazy to see the mountain washouts from when they had that bad flooding a couple years ago. Really makes you think about the power of Mother Nature. Quote

There is some real gnarly washouts on 100 N as well. For awhile there were some wrecked houses on the side of the road, but they finally cleared those up this past fall. Irene really trashed the place. Quote

Kyle Posted January 13, 2014 Author Report Posted January 13, 2014 Just got back into the hotel. Pulled into the k-1 lot around 8:45 and it was empty. Parked maybe 5 spots back from the gondola. Hopped on at 9 when they opened and was the 2nd civilian car up. Took a first run down juggernaut to the skyepeak express. From that we took some runs through the stash then it was over to ramshead to ride timberline for a little bit. Stopped for lunch around 11:30 and we were probably able to get around 12 runs in from open until then. Headed back out after lunch and basically just tried to get ourselves lost so individual trail reports aren't really going to happen. The snow was nice hardpack in the morning but quickly turned to sugar once the sun came out. We took our last run up k-1 at 3:15 and headed down juggernaut to the sky peak express and then back over to k-1 to end the day around 4. All in all it was an excellent blue bird day with minimal winds, solid temperatures, and plenty of sun to be had. I didn't get many pictures as I was more concerned with riding but I will post the few that I took. And some pics from long trail yesterday 4 Quote
Ride Delaware ? Posted January 13, 2014 Report Posted January 13, 2014 Awesome. Glad to hear you could get out and go bell to bell. I drove up to Sugarbush today and was amazed at how warm it was when I went by K-Mart. 47 at base of Pico, Killington, and Sugarbush. I figured you were getting some pretty sweet spring conditions. Definitely an inversion. It was 40 in the valley between K-Mart and the Bush. Didn't see any snow on the ground until I got to the Rt. 4/Rt. 100 intersection. Amazing how much snow they have lost since I was here 3 weeks ago. Thank the good lord for snowmaking. Quote
Johnny Law Posted January 13, 2014 Report Posted January 13, 2014 Nice dude, depth is poor up their now but your out riding so that's all that matters. Irene was just terrible, VT due to geography and history has most of it's construction along rivers, the mighty Winooski just murdered whole downtowns. They got off their asses though and they are in much better shape now with almost no federal money. 107 used to be a little spicy through the st park, now it's a lovely jaunt along the river. Highpeaks in the ADK have done less well. Quote
Kyle Posted January 13, 2014 Author Report Posted January 13, 2014 Thanks guys. Definatley a difference in riding in pa for sure. When you can easily hit speeds of 50mph on a run and feel comfortable it's awesome. Going bell to bell is something I haven't done in a lonngggg time. 1 Quote
