EDIT: the ARSA races have all been added to the calendar. The calendar is filling up fast!! Edited August 18, 2005 by Papasteeze Quote
Glenn Posted August 19, 2005 Report Posted August 19, 2005 Skimom... the person behind you 'at a glance' looks like the head of the horse, putting you on it backwards. Funny every time I see it . Quote

That is the site of a large ski organization? I can't believe it looks like the site was written in 1985, and no web-savvy volunteer has helped them out. Quote
Glenn Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 Actually, I think there is probobly a tendency to assume the horse is facing the camera. Your posture doesn't look like your facing the camera so it messes with the mind. The mind searches for the head of the horse, and sees the head of the guy in the background. Just some theories. You have to be kidding me if you are saying that stretched gif at the top doesn't look awsome. I'm sure the lack of "fancy formatting" and other bells and whistles you guys love was to stream line the data transfer. Quote

The MB went down for months after a lot of porn spam and nobody really noticed. The pics are from races at least five years ago...maybe more. I really think race day turnout would be better if the site was top shelf, but nobody has stepped up to take it over for AJ... Edited August 20, 2005 by ski999 Quote
ThinkSnow Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 I mean, I'm not saying the site has to be kick ass with all kind of bells and whistles, but I think in a lot of cases it's like having a store that sells great stuff, but it's located in the basement of a crack-house. I just think presentation really goes a long way to turn people on to whatever it is you're doing. Quote
Ski Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 Agreed. Ski clubs and race organizations across the US are pretty infamous for terrible web sites. If your interested, here's MACK Ski Club's: http://www.mackskiclub.homestead.com/ Here's the site for all Eastern PA ski clubs (I can't even figure it out): http://www.easternpaskicouncil.org/ Quote
Glenn Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 That reminds me greg when are we getting that purple scrolling text working? Quote
skifreak Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 I never knew Mack Trucks had a ski club. A lot of people on my mothers side of the family started out working at Mack Trucks. I always wondered if they did the Bulldog Race Series at blue and according to their site it looks like they do. That other site is really crappy looking. Quote

skifreak Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 Eh, maybe it isn't. I just made the assumption with the name "Mack" and then in the race series they listed below "Bulldog Race Series" Quote
skimom Posted August 21, 2005 Author Report Posted August 21, 2005 (edited) They Foys run ASRA as volunteers from start to finish, without any slushfund, and on top of whatever work they do for a living. They organize all the races and clinics, maintain the computer programs that calculate the handicaps and places, purchace and maintain all the ski equipment, purchace medals, etc. It's a miracle they are able to maintain even a minimal website. No arguement that a fancy website would help get a few extra folks - especially the younger crowd. But, ASRA racers are mostly club racers, and their only interest is in seeing the schedule of events and results. Even though a few of us ski bums noticed it was down, most racers would not have reason to look at the website off season. It would be cool to have a nicer website. Want to volunteer??? Want to volunteer??? 31202[/snapback] The Foys run ASRA as their business. They make money at it. They don't buy any equipment, they use the ski area's timing and gates. They do buy the medals, their own laptop computer, set up the races at the various ski resorts, etc. I believe they do their own website, and they are not pros, hence the lack of professional coding.
