Skiier14 Posted February 11, 2014 Report Posted February 11, 2014 Hey did anyone see the "coming soon" video on Montage's Facebook page? It shows a skiier with a lift at high speed in the background. Quote
toast21602 Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 i don't think that's what they are talking about... Quote
Skiier14 Posted February 12, 2014 Author Report Posted February 12, 2014 Wishful thinking but maybe? Check out the link Quote
toast21602 Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 it wouldn't be coming soon. it would be coming next year. Quote
be85 Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Either the dude has no legs or he is on some sort of a sled Quote
Schif Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 I saw the video, but I don't have any idea what it could be. I think the end was just a cool time lapse look at the lift. That side of the mountain couldn't support a high speed because it doesn't service enough terrain. Not to mention you would have to be able to ski a black diamond to get to it, which would either limit the people using it, or even worse, encourage people to go down a trail that they can't handle. Quote
Justo8484 Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 or even worse, encourage people to go down a trail that they can't handle. Welcome to blue mountain, where two high speed lifts go over all of the difficult and exciting terrain, for every gaper to see 1 Quote
RidgeRacer Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Would be sweet. Where would they put it? Long haul? 1 Quote
rgrwilco Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 New pod of trails would be cool. But I can't imagine they have the cash for a lift or new trails. Unless they discovered something with the long haul and it needs to be replaced. Quote
JFskiDan Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 The new owners have thrown a ton of cash at the place, and what they have done to it has been awesome. i would think they would want to re-coup some of that before laying out that kind of bread for a high speed. If they do, i think they would pretty much be following the previous owners playbook for failure. Quote

guitar73 Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 the highspeed lift should def replace long haul.... Quote
Ski2Live Live2Ski Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Can't imagine they would even feel a need to replace long haul if it broke, since it has been operating no more than 20% of the times I have been there. I'd like to see a high speed replace Phoebe Snow Quote

I'd like to see a high speed replace Phoebe Snow um...i can think of 914 vertical and 4245 horizontal reasons to upgrade the long haul lift...... 1 Quote
Ski2Live Live2Ski Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Sure there are good reasons for them to do it. But given that they so rarely run it, I doubt it is a priority. Quote
guitar73 Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 According to skilifts.org the long haul lift is 4730 feet long which I believe is the longest in PA. Makes sense since most of the terrain at montage is pretty flat i just grabbed the map distance off of google earth....actual ground distance would be longer, so i don't doubt the 4730 ft length. either way, that's a long ass lift (dist and time). Johnny Law Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Next time your there look up into the house on the Long Haul. The lift itself is a mix of parts, but the mechanicals are part john deer tractor, part ski lift....... 3 Quote

Johnny Law Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 nbd. It probably makes it easier to find parts when you can just look in your brother jeb's farm garage...... Quote
oldtimeskier Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Agree that a high speed lift is a great idea (Elk could use one also). I have not made it up to Montage this year (yet) but sounds as though there are a shitload of improvements and the attendance is way up. Hope it continues and then the new owners make some money and can invest in a HS lift. I ski a lot at a small mountain in southern NH called Crotched; they bought a HS and installed it about two years ago, It makes a world of difference. I always enjoyed Sno (Montage) great conditions and low crowds. Not being on Route 80 proximity of the NY/Northern NJ yahoos is a big plus. I wish them the best and if they build a HS lift "they will come" reference to an old baseball movie that most of you are too young to remember. Let it snow. Quote

Schif Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 That John Deere Tractor was running on Diesel backup power for a while on Saturday. I don't care if it runs on 2 mules attached to a pulley, as long as that things spins, I'll be snagging some awesome runs. 1 Quote

Sno Mountain Skier Posted February 13, 2014 Report Posted February 13, 2014 I believe the Phoebe Snow motor is from a Chevy or Ford. It was years ago when we sneaked into the engine room, but it was either a Ford or Chevy. Quote
