tarponhead Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 Still got a voucher I gotta use before the seasons end. When does Elk typically close for the season? Quote
RidgeRacer Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 They rarely go into April. A few seasons ago they had no choice since they had to make their 100 days. But I would say use that bad boy up soon because once they hit 100 they're pretty much finished Quote
tarponhead Posted March 3, 2014 Author Report Posted March 3, 2014 Just checked their website. Spring carnival is Saturday 15th so assuming that will be last day. 1 Quote
Ride Delaware ? Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 I highly doubt that it will be the 15th. That's incredibly early, even for them. I would bet a 6 pack that it's at least the 22nd if not the 29th. They haven't hit April with good conditions in 5 years, so with a weekend being that late, I don't think they will this year either. Johnny Law Posted March 4, 2014 Report Posted March 4, 2014 almost always a week before everyone else because it's a massively overrated hill noobs and wannabe's jerk it over because they think it makes them special little flowers.....lol without that huntah dude on here I don't have a hill to blast shit at anymore..... 1 Quote
tarponhead Posted March 4, 2014 Author Report Posted March 4, 2014 lol without that huntah dude on here I don't have a hill to blast shit at anymore..... I like huntah, especially mid-week. It's 2.5 hr door-to-door from me. That said, it is an odd, even ugly mountain the way they blasted the trails. But it has good steeps and they bump it up in places 1 Quote
toast21602 Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 i've never skied anywhere in NY. and actually very few places in VT. Quote

RidgeRacer Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Toast takes ski trips to places like Utah and Whistler. I dont think he's missing much in NY and VT. 1 Quote
toast21602 Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Toast takes ski trips to places like Utah and Whistler. I dont think he's missing much in NY and VT. Correct. The cost to quality ratio to go to VT or NY is crappy. Not worth my time if I can go out west for similar costs. Quote
tarponhead Posted March 5, 2014 Author Report Posted March 5, 2014 Correct. The cost to quality ratio to go to VT or NY is crappy. Not worth my time if I can go out west for similar costs. You put together good deals. However for me, roll with a family and that is not the case. Heck, the club trips I do out west typically run me ~ 1.5k (week) for just me. NE is far cheaper in my experience especially when I take my boys. Quote

We do put together some good trips and have done them enough to do it on the cheap. I would still rather spend the money out west, but it makes sense for you with the family. Quote

vinnyv11 Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 I've found my trips to NY/VT to be very inexpensive. Just like everything else its how you put it all together I suppose. Quote
RidgeRacer Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 (edited) For Western ski trips, I'm constantly on the lookout for earning airline miles. That's usually your biggest cost so cutting that out is huge. It's fairly easy to earn mad milage with southwests frequent flyer program. Edited March 5, 2014 by RidgeRacer Quote
RidgeRacer Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 They use points, usually around 15 to 20k points gets you a free round trip. If you take advantage of their deals like 2000 points just for ordering flowers that adds up quick. I think you get like 40k if you're approved for their credit card. Just earning points for flying could take a while. Quote
Johnny Law Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Your missing out if you haven't skied VT, NH, NY and ME. Western trips require planning or a really fat bankroll. Vday 2007, a confluence of energies has produced a monster blizzard for the NE, early modeling suggested a clipper but late runs are showing crazy high snowfall. Hop in car and drive 8hrs over night to VT, have two days of full on boner city, Stowe reported 48". Magic had 27" in the first 12hrs. Two weeks later at Jay I skied another 20" by driving up the night before. I ran a full month of weekends of sickbird pow riding all because it was in my back yard. That's what VT can do, you don't have to plan you just show up when it's going to snow. It's super cheap, I'll be in VT next weekend for 200$ plus meals. It's a shortish drive that is easy to do, smoke a j hop in the car and smoke another when you hit Albany, that trip will feel like it lasted 10mins. Fuck your math, math is pointing at the moon and confusing that pointing for the moon. A ski trip is not the sum of a series of variables in which you punch in inputs and out pops fun, when the fuck did we all become full time bean counters. Skiing has become a bunch of WASPY fuckers who want their nob slobbed constantly...... Truth - People don't like VT because it exposes weakness in their skiing game, pick any random day at Ajax and a random day at Stowe, it's easier to get your dick hard about feeling like your a skiing Jesus at Ajax. I think the pot is now sufficiently stirred....LOL 2 Quote
toast21602 Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 True. My problem is the driving. I hate driving. I know Vermont delivers. I just can't do things last minute to follow snow. Just haven't had good experiences up yet. I'm always down for an adventure. I don't dislike it. I enjoy going up but when taking limited trips I would rather hit the home run out west with friends than drive to Vermont. It is what it is. Just my opinion on the way I spend my money and time. In that awful winter of 11-12' one week after prez weekend we saw a Mother of God storm hitting Jay Peak. My friends and I made the call and drove up Thursday night after work. Skied Burke and JP. Jay got 4 feet in four days... Tram was on windhold so you hiked up from the flyer. Dropping down Valhalla in thigh to hip deep still is my greatest skiing experience ever. I got wood just thinking about that day... Meatheads actually captured that day at jay on one of their recent films. 5 Quote
RidgeRacer Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Wow so order flowers ten times and get a free flight that's sick. Are u going out west with JFDan and Phillycore this season? Just send flowers to all of the ladies you meet in da club and your flying free in no time. Utah didn't pan out this year. Next year. Unfortunately the extent of my storm chasing is relegated to Jackson Frost and Blue mountain lol. Given the nature of my job, family life etc. I have to plan my ski trips which is why Utah is such a draw. Chances are shits gonna be good there, and if it isn't, it's still better than here. 1 Quote
Johnny Law Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 It is what it is. Just my opinion on the way I spend my money and time. LOL You should know by now my primary motivation is to fuck with people but there is some truth to it. It's you money do what you want with it, the flying driving thing is interesting. I don't mind driving anything under 14hrs a day as long as were moving, flying makes me want to punch baby jesus in the taint. Not the actual flying, sitting in a chair in a metal tube eating fritos at 32k feet while traveling at 600mph is fucking cool, all the other shit really rustles my jimmies. GSS, I bought a bunch of Killy tickets from my Aunt who for unknown reasons gets a deal through the teachers union I think. I had two left over and got the Best Western at Killy for 400$. Split the room with my brother and it's 200$ plus gas and stuffing my fat face. 1 Quote
toast21602 Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 I just laughed through 90% of this haha Wouldn't want to rustle any jimmies. Quote
AtomicSkier Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 Vermont fucking sucks. Too much population too close. It's cold. It's crowded. Quote
