burton71 Posted September 30, 2014 Report Posted September 30, 2014 I've driven a bunch of stuff over the last 10 days and here's my short list: 2014 Dodge Durango RT and Citadel 2015 Ford Explorer Sport 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit and Overland 2015 MB ML 350 All are in the 50-65K range and have adaptive cruise control, navigation and rear entertainment. I'm leaning towards the Jeep. It's the sportiest and probably would go through deep water, snow and over curbs the best. Out of those go with the Jeep unless you need a 3rd row then go with the Ford. Maybe check out the MDX if you haven't yet. Excellent reliability and tech with a bunch of room inside and drives like car. Quote
poconoceancity Posted September 30, 2014 Author Report Posted September 30, 2014 Burton 71, I am probably getting the jeep, but I will check out the Acura. I don't need the 3rd row, since we have a Tahoe. Quote
poconoceancity Posted September 30, 2014 Author Report Posted September 30, 2014 No, I'll put down as much as it takes to get my payment around $500 for 72 months. Unless I can get zero percent than I'll put down nothing and have a $1000 or more per month payment for 60 months. Quote
poconoceancity Posted September 30, 2014 Author Report Posted September 30, 2014 Nice. 60 months or 72? Quote
Justo8484 Posted October 2, 2014 Report Posted October 2, 2014 Just curious, why would you want a loan that long? I get it when your interest rate is 0, but if it's not, and you've got the money, why not just own it outright? I had a good interest rate on my subi, with a 5 year loan, but by putting half down and paying more than the minimum each month, I paid it off in 3 years and saved about 3k by doing so over the life of the loan. 2 Quote
poconoceancity Posted October 2, 2014 Author Report Posted October 2, 2014 I always put down as much needed to keep the payment around $500. I always pay off early also. I've never had a zero percent loan. If I get one I look at it as free money and might as well not put anything down. I'm hoping there are some deals to be had between Columbus Day and teachers convention when I plan on buying. I looked at an MDX yesterday it was nice, but I'm still favoring the jeep. Quote

With stupid low car loan interest rates your money is better off invested in something else at an easily much higher return. Quote
RootDKJ Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 poconoceancity, I don't think anyone has asked one of the most important questions yet... What color? Quote
poconoceancity Posted October 3, 2014 Author Report Posted October 3, 2014 I like all colors but red or gold. Quote
poconoceancity Posted October 6, 2014 Author Report Posted October 6, 2014 Probably not green or purple. Quote
zzslope Posted October 11, 2014 Report Posted October 11, 2014 poconoceancity did you buy a vehicle? Quote
poconoceancity Posted October 11, 2014 Author Report Posted October 11, 2014 Sometime between Columbus Day and NJ teachers convention. I'm going out on Monday to a few jeep and Benz dealerships. I drove a GLA 350 when I was looking at a ML 350. It was super fun and sporty. Just not sure if it's big enough. Quote
Shadows Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 You could always buy a big mini cooper lol Quote
zzslope Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 By that definition my mid life crisis is five fold. 2 Quote
poconoceancity Posted November 22, 2014 Author Report Posted November 22, 2014 After being very close to buying a 2015 ford explorer sport I have decided to wait for this march when the redesigned 2016 ford explorer sport is released. I will probably do 3 more day trips before Xmas so my pickup truck will have to do. Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted November 22, 2014 Report Posted November 22, 2014 Remember ben folds five? Yeah I worked security at one of his concerts in college and got paid $30. Also did Maceo Parker...smelled like a skunk in that concert. There was a ford explorer who we saved a spot for today at Blue. My friend Ben used to have a Ford explorer sport 2 door. Was probably like a 97 and it was pretty nice. Quote
poconoceancity Posted November 23, 2014 Author Report Posted November 23, 2014 2 door broncos are making a return also. Quote
phillycore Posted November 23, 2014 Report Posted November 23, 2014 2 door broncos are making a return also. Almost looks like a hummer Quote
poconoceancity Posted December 14, 2014 Author Report Posted December 14, 2014 I'm having a hard time being patient, I might grab the 2015 explorer sport this week and get killed on the trade in a year or two. Quote

poconoceancity Posted December 14, 2014 Author Report Posted December 14, 2014 The amount I owe on it in a year or two would be more than it would be worth, since the first year or two see the greatest amount of depreciation. Quote
