Ski2Live Live2Ski Posted November 17, 2014 Report Posted November 17, 2014 Hope it's still in the cards with rain scheduled for today. Hoping to head up there this weekend if conditions seem to warrant it. Anyone else can't wait for PA to open and thinking of doing the extra drive? Anyone know what terrain Hunter tends to open with? guitar73 Posted November 17, 2014 Report Posted November 17, 2014 (edited) hunter usually has hellgate and broadway open...if it's ttb they'll add in kenndy drive. it's all black/blue terrain. if they are open, we're planning to head up. Edited November 17, 2014 by guitar73 Quote
tnt Posted November 17, 2014 Report Posted November 17, 2014 I'm thinking about it. No one else in the cats will be open? Quote
Johnny Law Posted November 17, 2014 Report Posted November 17, 2014 Huntah !!!! I'd rather give myself a vesectomy while licking Doug's taint after a night of Charlie K's pizza than ride at huntah 3 Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted November 17, 2014 Report Posted November 17, 2014 I'm not going to hunter for WROD. Been there done that. Quote

Thanks for the 411. I'm thinking about it. No one else in the cats will be open? Gore seems to be the closest place other than Hunter that will be open before Black Friday I'm not going to hunter for WROD. Been there done that. What's WROD? And why do you feel that way? Never been up there that early myself. Is it due to crowds? I'm actually most likely to go up Monday the 24th when crowds would be smaller and prices lower (particularyl as I grabbed a Big Lift card which gives deep discounts on weekdays). Quote

Ski2Live Live2Ski Posted November 18, 2014 Author Report Posted November 18, 2014 Sure looks like they are making snow on a pretty wide swath of the mountain from their webcams Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 Yeah cause hunter opening is one route and its narrow and the shittiest of shit heads fr Jersey and New York. Mostly pretty crappy skiers. If they get belt parkway open for the weekend at least it will spread out the herbs a lite. 1 Quote
guitar73 Posted November 18, 2014 Report Posted November 18, 2014 the last time we were there on opening day there were no gapers to be found......typical of early season skiing at most hills. that said, I do agree...hell gate isn't one of my fav runs either.....but, at least it's skiing and that's what I care about right now, lol. Ride Delaware ? Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 If they have the snowmaking system going full bore and have the guns dried out, it can be a blast. Patrol is real liberal about closed terrain early season and most of the time they don't even rope off the trail. They put a little sign that says closed beside it. Should say open for poaching. Unfortunately, the clientele is mostly dickish and the crowds descend en mass. Since there is only the HBK route or Belt Parkway off the top, it becomes an icy hell on the top 3rd until you get to where the trails fan out. However, if I were jonesing hard enough, I would still go. Quote
Ski2Live Live2Ski Posted November 19, 2014 Author Report Posted November 19, 2014 Looking at pix on their site it seems pretty certain Belt Parkway will be open. BUT Belleayre just announced opening this weekend with $25 tix if you buy online in advance. Expect I will go there to avoid the crowds. Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 Is Belleayre just gonna be lower onoteira? I've been to Belleayre for their opening day and was quite crowded. If just lower onoteira only about 500 vert without much pitch. Quote
Ski2Live Live2Ski Posted November 19, 2014 Author Report Posted November 19, 2014 They say triple chair 7 open for expert and intermediate terrain. No specification of which trails yet. Quote

Hopefully they have upper onoteira open that's about their steepest run there and bumps up quick. There's a mid station on chair 7 for the herbs. Quote
Ski2Live Live2Ski Posted November 19, 2014 Author Report Posted November 19, 2014 got some more details but lets move this discussion over to the topi I created for it Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 What about windham and Platekill?? 1 Quote
Ski2Live Live2Ski Posted November 19, 2014 Author Report Posted November 19, 2014 WIndham says they are opening Friday the 21st and currently making snow on Upper & Lower Whistler, Warpath Chute, Wide Connection, Upper & Lower Wolverine, Warm Up, What’s Next, Lower Wall Street, Wooly Bear, and Whisper Run. Plattekill has a pretty lame snowmaking system and gives no indication they are opening soon Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 I remember windham having some of the best variety of terrain open for opening days in the past. 1 Quote
Ski2Live Live2Ski Posted November 19, 2014 Author Report Posted November 19, 2014 I remember windham having some of the best variety of terrain open for opening days in the past. From what they are making snow on it could be two top to bottom runs (one intermed, one expert) as well as some lower mountain stuff, so its not that different from Hunter. The nice thing is that having three Catskill places open should reduce the crowds at all of them Quote

guitar73 Posted November 19, 2014 Report Posted November 19, 2014 I just plan to get there early.....def can get some turns in before it could get crazy. 1 Quote
RootDKJ Posted November 20, 2014 Report Posted November 20, 2014 I've done both Belleayre and Huntah openings in the past. I'm so fucking happy I won't have to do that this season. 1 Quote
