My new skis came!

So in laymens terms... you get a more stable ski at high speeds that can turn easily because of the radius?

Well yea, In a turn, I was flexing / maxing my GS:9's out. They were bent as much as they could be, and really weren't giving me enough pop. I wanted something stiffer, that I could push really hard into turns, and would really snap out of the turn. The GS:9s were a great way to get me arcing nice turn, and this ski should help me progress, since it's kinda hard to max out a race stock GS:11 :) It'll make me tip the ski on high edge to really bend this thing....

Hey Atomic:

How long are your old GS9's?  If they are around 170, can I try them?  :woot

They are 170s. Yea, I was going to let Thinksnow try them, cause I want him to get shorter skis. But let me know your boot size ahead of time, and I'll remount them so only a twist of a screw is required for you to use them (i love atomic bindings). The skis have about 90 days on them, but they still rip...

But anything for skimom :)

291mm.

I wouldn't want to deprive Think if he really wants them - but still, I'd love to try them... No harm in both of us taking a few runs in them...right??? :lol

Talk of demoing skis makes next winter seem SO CLOSE.

Thanks, Atomic. You're turning into such a nice guy - should we worry?

When haven't I been a nice guy? If it means promoting Atomic skis, I'm all for it, but you've never been anti-Atomic like your offspring has

Greg, I only have two pairs of Atomics now (three pairs overall  )....You can try the GS:9s, but I got watch you though, because you'll probably love them so much you'll leave with them (like you did with my poles!):nana

Atomic:

You used to be SUCH A TROUBLEMAKER -> Trying to provoke others to get themselves into trouble. Anyway, you actually defuse things on occasion now. Plus, you are racing now - instead of talking about racing. An amazing transformation.

So, what's the biggie with Atomic anyway? Got stock in their company?

haha, maybe i was :P But I've settled down, and am doing whats best for the site. I sorta race now, haha, we'll see how much i get into it this year...but i may have to with my fancy new skis, AND having NASTAR to practice on two times a week.

We can swap off, Think.  You still go to CB sometimes, right?  I just want to get the feel of them to see if I'd want to consider getting a pair.

they're great skis. not to put down your ability, because it's not that at all, but at your weight, I think a GS:9 would be a great ski. For me, it was a GREAT ski to help my transition from a normal skier to someone that can hang with the best of them, and look good too. The shape helps you really make nice turns, and with the adjustable bindings, you can adjust the turnshap yourself, too. At 185lbs, they're a bit too soft for me, as I can push them to their limits. However, without even demoing them, off recommendations from skidude (when he was an atomic guy) and ski999, i bought those GS:9s, and absoloutly loved them. I'm hoping to have the same love affair with my new skis. As for why I love Atomics? I've tried a decent amount of skis, and after trying Salomons, they felt like, to me, a Mercedes. Meant for cruising. I went to Atomics, and honestly, it was like driving a BMW, I felt at home. To me, both are the ultimate in what they are made for. Driving/skiing fast, and hard. It's not a name thing for me, because if Infiniti actually ever stepped up to the plate, and made something better then a BMW 3 series, I'd get it, but the BMW is still the ultimate, so I'm not brand loyal, its just the products that Atomic put out are the best, hence all the best WC racers using them, so I'll use them until something better comes out. and for me, especially this time around, the GS:11 @ 16m was the EXACT ski I was looking for. Something with a sidecut of my GS:9 (15m) with more stiffness. I fonund what I wanted at a great price.

I previously demoed one of atomics GS:11's and liked it, but think I'd have trouble in a serious race. Sizewise, I fall in the borderzone between a junior and an adult ski. I demoed a Rossi junior race ski and the adult Race stock ski at Mt Hood, and held a better line on the junior ski. But, the junior ski day was slop, and they didn't handle well in mashed potatoes, so I didn't bring them home. I'm looking for a ski in the borderzone between junior and adult - the atomic 9 might be about right. Too bad they don't make them around 165 - maybe ski999 can find some in that length - he's good at finding models that don't exist.

Meanwhile, I've got racerchicks SLs@ 160 which I will try as a short-turn GS ski.

yea, a 165cm GS:9 would be great. Though I think you'll have no problem with the GS:9s....they're practically a slalom ski (15m radius)

  • 2 weeks later...

My new skis came Friday, but were taken back to the Post Office because I wasn't around to sign for them...so I have a pink slip that says I have a package from Denver.

I've decided that having your new skis sit at the PO all weekend goes directly into the "sucks" catagory...
