larrytbull Posted January 13, 2015 Report Posted January 13, 2015 Was thinking about hitting elk this sunday curious if it will be less crowded then rest of the hills? Also How is the snow up there? Is there any park? if so how are the features Quote
Rex Goliath Posted January 14, 2015 Report Posted January 14, 2015 This is what Elk looks Like on a Holiday Weekend: Seriously, Even Elk can get a bit crowed on a Holiday weekend. Compared to the other areas with greater proximetry to the cities, the crowd is usually far less. Especialy when you have a good portion of the skiers sitting on slow moving lifts; the managment philopsphy is to control the number of people on the slopes by not moving too many people up the hill too fast! It gives the person next to you on the chair ample time to impress you will their fabulousness! Usually MLK weekend is not as bad as Presidents weekend. My advice: Get there early, Ski all you can til 10:30 when the crowd usually starts to build. Eat lunch at eleven, otherwise you will never get a table., enjoy the gathering crowd til 2:30. Usually by 3 the place starts to clear out and you can hit it hard til 4:30. Elk should have great overage this weekend, I would expect that all of the snowmaking trails will be open and all lifts running. This past weekend it was never more than a 3 minute line at any of the lifts. Pack your own food, the quality of the food has gone down considerably while prices have gone up. Cheers! Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted January 14, 2015 Report Posted January 14, 2015 The named skiing segment is pure gold...and cold!!!! Quote

moe ghoul Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 Elk was groomer paradise Wed/Thurs, with ungroomed skiing on Mohawk, little bumps, and ungroomed on one other trail, no bumps. Chalky packed powder, zero ice. Upper Tunk was roped off this week, they had blown some snow on the bumps, let it settle, then began grooming it flat yesterday. Should be good to go for he weekend. Food stoke. Atmospheric stoke Proof of groomed snow stoke It was a good trip, we ended up blowing off Montage due to a delayed start on Tuesday, so we unpacked our gear and got ripped on Magic #9 and Jeremiah Weed shots. 3 Quote

Also How is the snow up there? Is there any park? if so how are the features There is park set ups at 2 locations, but I didn't look to see what they had set up. Most park riders give Elk's park scene a thumbs down. Is that your raptor moe? No, we drove up in my buddy's '15 Golf GTI with snow tires, its a nice ride for a smaller car. I think he got a few of the sportier options with it. I drove it up 476 for about an hour just to have a little fun using a stick shift again. Edited January 16, 2015 by moe ghoul Quote
