tnt Posted February 18, 2015 Report Posted February 18, 2015 Solo day trip. Trying to decide between elk or Montage. Never been to montage, but am intrigued by the talks of good trees. Like the bump runs at elk. How have these two mountains been skiing? Any opinions on the best choice here? (Of course, I might just go back to the blue as it's substantially closer, or at the other end of the spectrum, might decide to try to day trip belleayre....) Quote

Montage has better tree options though I don't know what coverage is like. Schiff would know. Quote
tnt Posted February 18, 2015 Author Report Posted February 18, 2015 Thanks. Just started a thread in the montage forum. Quote
toast21602 Posted February 18, 2015 Report Posted February 18, 2015 If you haven't been to Montage, give it a shot. Quote
mbike-ski Posted February 18, 2015 Report Posted February 18, 2015 can't answer to montage but the bumps on Chippewa and Tunkhannock were in great shape last Friday - chalky good fun! Quote
Schif Posted February 19, 2015 Report Posted February 19, 2015 Bad few weeks for me to comment on conditions as I haven't been out much, but from what I have seen conditions at Montage will be pretty good. They have been making snow on the northface a night or two a week to freshen up the surfaces in addition to the natural snow so it should be pretty good this weekend. I'll be out on Saturday Morning unless something comes up. Quote
guitar73 Posted February 20, 2015 Report Posted February 20, 2015 i was up at montage a couple of weeks ago and conditions were bangin'. I expect that they are still good given the lack of warm temps and they continue to blow snow there. Quote

tnt Posted February 23, 2015 Author Report Posted February 23, 2015 Made the drive up to Belleayre instead. Great day. Snow was perfect. Woods open everywhere. Guess they got 5-6" Sat. night. Great day. Long drive, but worth it this time... Quote
