Unless there’s another tour? There's one I think in the skook that I've been to, near Centralia. Edit: Ashland pa (skook) 'pioneer' coal mine tour. Lackawanna one prob better tho. Grandparents were coal-crackers so had to show him what it was like. Jail tour up in Jim Thorpe is also cool. 1 Quote

Barb Posted September 27, 2020 Report Posted September 27, 2020 I am digging the lavender unicorn rainbow pants. Since I live in Boulder I think I could get away with wearing them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote

PSUFrankenstein Posted September 28, 2020 Report Posted September 28, 2020 There's a train that runs from Reading to Jim Thorpe too although looks like its closed this fall. I'll have to check out the scranton one and hit breaker brewing again 1 Quote

Of course, promised to go back and take the ride, but unfortunately never did. Edited September 28, 2020 by indiggio 1 Quote

Looks like all the train rides out of Steamtown are on pause until 9/30 and decisions about fall foliage and holiday excursions will be made at a later date. It would probably be quite nice to see the trees and colors from a steam train. 1 Quote

We did both the Kempton train ride and also the Jim Thorpe bike ride train that takes you up to White Haven then you ride back in the Fall. They where fun. Quote
toast21602 Posted October 2, 2020 Report Posted October 2, 2020 (edited) Not specifically trains, but here are some old photos of Bethlehem and Bethlehem Steel area. It is pretty crazy to see how massive the place was, how many rail lines weaved through the city, and how the festival grounds for musikfest were at once all industrial buildings. You can see the cranes in use which now display the casino signs out front. Edited October 2, 2020 by toast21602 3 Quote
trackbiker Posted October 2, 2020 Report Posted October 2, 2020 Cool photos. That pic doesn't show a large part of Bethlehem Steel. The plant extended all the way up to where I78 is today with the coke works and other divisions. I used to call on Bethlehem Steel in the late 80's early 90's. You would get a pass and a map at the original headquarters building on 4th street and then drive sometimes a few miles in the plant to meet your contact. 2 Quote

toast21602 Posted October 29, 2020 Report Posted October 29, 2020 In the spirit of cold weather and possibly some first snowflakes of the skison, here is a nice snow picture of an LV load coming from Lehighton heading towards Lehigh Gap right near the turnpike tunnel. And here is a nice one from between Lehigh Gap and Northampton. I'm hoping for more snow like this. 4 Quote
JFskiDan Posted October 29, 2020 Report Posted October 29, 2020 (edited) @toast21602 - do you have RFD TV on your streaming service? i have occasionally bumped into a few neat programs on trains there. Edited October 29, 2020 by JFskiDan Quote

toast21602 Posted November 10, 2020 Report Posted November 10, 2020 1884 map of railroads in the LV area. Pretty neat-o to see all of the stops on different lines and some previous names of towns. 2 Quote
Kyle Posted November 10, 2020 Report Posted November 10, 2020 My grandfather has a pretty cool model train setup taking up one side of his basement that I used to spend HOURS playing with as a kid. I was always so intrigued by the fact I could control 3 separate trains/tracks off of one control panel. I’ll have to take pictures next time I’m over there Quote
toast21602 Posted November 15, 2020 Report Posted November 15, 2020 Not sure if I posted this one before, but it is definitely one of my favorites from the Lehigh Gap. I don't know what it is about this location but I think the images that come out of here are really cool. This is another aerial image that I don't recall seeing before. Gives a good perspective of what that area used to look like. 2 1 Quote
