Ski2Live Live2Ski Posted November 5 Report Posted November 5 Isn’t snowmaking fairly water use neutral since it flows back down to the ponds? that just means they wouldn’t be restricted in what they use from their pond not that they could draw from public water supply to make snow Quote
Ski2Live Live2Ski Posted November 5 Report Posted November 5 Lift damage and building damage (which is more likely as they are likely more flammable) are basically the thing you would worry about Quote
toast21602 Posted November 5 Report Posted November 5 The fire isn't going to get near the ski area. 1 1 Quote

The fire is going to dessimate miles of beautiful land in its path, and the democrats have given all of the water to Canada. All of the beautiful real estate around the area will be worthless. The fire was started near a polling location to distract the people of Palmerton, in hopes they would all stay inside and not go out to vote. 5 1 Quote

I think an insurance company might condemn it for safety reasons, even though there might be very little visual damage. Good news to hear that the fire won’t make it there. 1 Quote
EdBacon Posted November 5 Report Posted November 5 577 acres burned now. Was 220 yesterday. Fire remains 25% contained. Looks like the smaller Mosier's Knob fire by Shawnee has stopped updating. Maybe that one is fully contained/out. 1 Quote

Erosion is a big one for ski areas and can change the sediment balance, they rely on a good nucleus tooso they often have higher mineral content and it doesn't melt the same way out of the sky does due to the higher water content. But it's less than 1% of any states water usage and is 80 to 95% returned to the system eventually. The NSSA talks about water recharge and stuff here https://www.nsaa.org/snowmaking 1 Quote

Oh if you want a full report sure I got you. Our lift gate has issues so took the truck into a place outside Palmerton..I had to follow delivery guy because liftgate was blocking license and brake lights and he’d be pulled over so fast…his GPS took him up 309 through orefield and schnecksville and Neffs and slatington then over the mighty Lehigh and two cops right in the entrance of Palmerton but they didn’t notice loftgate 3/4 down Got truck dropped off and drove back to the A via Blue mountain drive with a stop at the lower lot first to show where I park and drove over to tubing morning of note at the base. At the summit parked right at the top of the steps sliding glass door worked going into the lodge but not to get onto the mountain so exited by slopeside…then after showing delivery guy the wedding area and vista went upstairs showed him the ballroom and peaced out. didn’t stop at sheetz on way back but wanted to. 1 3 Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 lots of equipment on school hill and some little tents set up in the summit lodge courtyard. When I returned to work an hour and a half later I had six voicemails and sadly none in Spanish, telemarketers or hang ups…. Quote

momskeeztoo Posted November 20 Report Posted November 20 Heard a rumor that the snowmaking ponds were empty. They had to use the water to help put out the fire. Any truth to that? Quote
