Yes, I thought fire was near Lehigh Valley Nature Center. Isn’t that the other side of the river from Blue? Any updates?

The fire is on the other side of the gap from the nature center. Seems to be mostly on the south side of the ridge, on the west side of Little Gap, so hasn't gotten near the ski area yet.

r/lehighvalley - Not looking great at lehigh gap. Fire was at 8 acres a few hours ago. Very difficult terrain to fight fires in.

My concern is there are some hemlock trees that are on the north side of the ridge not too far away, and the winds forecast to kick up out of the south tomorrow. Hopefully they knock it down before it gets to that point because it could be an issue for blue . It looks like it’s traveled about a half mile east even though the winds are out of the east .

i’m sure the BlueMountain crew is gaming out some scenarios for firing up the snow making equipment that’s mobile just in case.

Does PA have those helicopters with the big buckets, or anyone that knows how to do that? Can we get one from California?

They had two running most of the day. They were filling up in the Lehigh by the gap but the wind changed direction and blew the smoke over the area.

Saw it Saturday on the way to pick up my skis. Looked like something you’d see in California. Couldn’t see it from the actual ski area however as it’s pretty far off. Side note…we do need rain pretty badly. The Lehigh river at Lehighton looks like a creek and unfortunately no rain 50 and 60 degree temps are all I see in the forecast. Starting to get a bit nervous

People are dumb multiple people messages me asking if this will affect the ski season.  No being warm AF might.

For reference, the brush fire's distance from Blue Mountain, the true Mountain, is the equivalent of 4 Nile Miles put together. That should help some dumb multiple people who messaged you to understand.

I’m old and remember a brush fire that started near Parryville along 248 and traveled 5 miles East and in a day . It skipped roads pretty quickly. There was a 20 mph wind.
I didn’t know it was going and drove through Palmerton to Beltzville and ended up driving through it . I remember a dude who was fighting it with a hose. His grass was burning and it traveled around the house. I passed an acre of pine trees that were fully engulfed.

We lucked out so far.

Neversink has burned twice in my years, both times reading peep shit but it's wild to look up and entire mtn side is burning.

That said I think our fighting to fire ratio is much better than true wilderness fires and its impressive how fast it all comes back.

My worst case scenario was Blue ended up emptying the ponds fighting off the fire and having some lift damage.

I haven’t checked the fire status lately.
Some rain in the forecast Sunday 🤞

Some lift damage?  Wouldn’t a fire destroy the lifts.  Also I’m hoping Blue has enough water for their snowmaking. If this drought continues there could be water restrictions. It needs to get cold first.
