Anyone here ever done Tahoe without renting a car? Gonna be staying at northstar but wondering if their public transit is good enough to get to squalpine without renting a car. I checked google maps, and it should be like a half hour drive, but it's taking the most round about way and taking almost 5 hours if I switch to transit, even though there are bus routes on the shorter, more direct route?

Yeah I'm also going with my family. Parents are just gonna be skiing northstar, so they realistically don't need a car, but I don't wanna be stuck at northstar the whole time, and don't feel like dealing with a rental car if I can get elsewhere easily with public transit. Also, Protect Our Winters and whatnot.

When I was at Northstar with family we rented a car. For all those people a car rental will be more cost affective than a bunch of shuttles and save alot of time. You can use rental to get everybody to Northstar and rental car to explore other mountains. It's a no brainer.

Been to Tahoe....stayed at heavenly but used a rental vehicle... Judging from my experience there....don't think I'd personally want to go without one.

Unless you are only skiing one place.

Mostly just curious, but you can really easily ski the cottonwoods in Utah without renting a car. Same deal with the park city area. If I can conveniently have someone else drive me around for less money, why not?
