Ski2Live Live2Ski Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 (edited) I wasn't actually at Gore this weekend, but I skied with someone Sunday at Camelback who had been at Gore Friday and said conditions there were dangerously treacherous - really just a sheet of ice that nobody could make a turn on without razor sharp edges. And there is a current news item that enable experienced skier lost control skiing a "packed powder" double black "Lies" and careened of the trail and hit several trees before dying. So I would be quite wary of skiing there until they get or make some decent snow. How often do you get folks relocating their ski plans from Gore to Camelback for better conditions? GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 I will say that often times we have better ski conditions here in PA than Vermont and Whiteface. Any competent east coast skier should be able to handle icy conditions with controlled skids and hop turns...ice is nice speed is good. 1 Quote
mbike-ski Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 rumor has it that conditions were excellent at gore yesterday http://forum.nyskiblog.com/Gore-Conditions-td4065337i450.html#a4073689 also confirmed on fb from some blue locals that were there. i had plans to be there this weekend for some cross/back country xcd skiing but bailed - no snow in the woods 1 Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 Well it rained up there Thursday and then froze Friday. Shit happens. Quote
tarponhead Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 Skier death occurred at least 6 days ago. Very sorry for family. But it has nothing to do with conditions reported this past Friday. Couple of blue regulars up there this past weekend loving it Quote

rgrwilco Posted March 1, 2016 Report Posted March 1, 2016 (edited) A friend of a friend posted this video from pico which is an actual sheet of ice with an uncontrolled slide. https://www.facebook.com/Taustin95/videos/vb.1341000042/10205889952751564/?type=2 Edited March 1, 2016 by rgrwilco Quote
Ski2Live Live2Ski Posted January 16, 2018 Author Report Posted January 16, 2018 Had been thinking about taking kids to Gore this weekend (they have a kids ski free week) but sounds like conditions are real bad there again. Probably do PA instead unless things change. Quote

Ski2Live Live2Ski Posted January 17, 2018 Author Report Posted January 17, 2018 If I can drive it in 12 hours I won't fly. Quote
trackbiker Posted January 17, 2018 Report Posted January 17, 2018 Skied Gore last Saturday. They got about 4" from the storm once it turned to snow. Most of the lifts were iced up so terrain was limited. Conditions were great except where the water had pooled and froze. But you could ski around the ice. Heard Sunday was much better. I think Gore will be great this weekend after this storm. 1 Quote

momskeeztoo Posted January 17, 2018 Report Posted January 17, 2018 Conditions should be good there. It's a nice, fun mountain. I think every place was a sheet last week after that rain. Quote
Ski2Live Live2Ski Posted January 18, 2018 Author Report Posted January 18, 2018 They are still saying the primary surface is LG there with 6-18" base - which is far from awesome, and you always expect are reports to be better than reality. I think it makes more sense to ski PA this weekend rather than deal with the extra driving and hotels for those conditions. Quote
trackbiker Posted January 18, 2018 Report Posted January 18, 2018 Gore is always slow to update their conditions and snow accumulations. In any case, I would agree, now is not the best time to go to Gore. You likely want to wait until they have all of their terrain open including the Snow Bowl. Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted January 18, 2018 Report Posted January 18, 2018 Holy crap half their terrain is closed.. Quote
