tnt Posted December 19, 2016 Report Posted December 19, 2016 Had a car full of kids. Set out at 6:15. Roads were terrible. Almost bailed a the water gap and headed for CB or JF or maybe Elk, but we had pre-bought our tickets, so we pressed on. Saw about 8 cars in the ditches, and witnessed a few spin outs. It was pretty hairy. took at extra 1:15 or so. Got on the mountain at 11....and boy, the white knuckle drive was worth it. Soft snow everywhere - maybe about 6" total? Pretty chopped up by the time we got there. Racer's Edge was filled with whales and bumps, and was super fun...they opened Claires on the back side, and that was great - hardly anyone over there nice windy, bumped up trail to a ski-on HSQ....so nice. The normally icy headwalls were all butter...crowds were manageable all day, and the roads were cleared when we left at 4. Home in 3hrs. flat with one gas stop. Tough drive, but a great day. Felt like I got a little piece of this snowy December.... Quote

Ski2Live Live2Ski Posted December 19, 2016 Report Posted December 19, 2016 (edited) Best way from Central NJ IMO is Parkway N to 17 N to NYS thruway. While some might thing to avoid 17 as it is not an Interstate, that stretch is 55 mph, has not a single light, and has convenient gas and food options. I made it there from Lawrenceville in 2:35 leaving at 630 am two Sundays ago. Glad to hear Hunter was so nice on Sat. It was fear of road conditions there (seemingly well founded) that got me to opt for Montage instead, which has the advantage of being within 3 miles of an Interstate as well as being closer and less far north. They had at least 3-4 fresh inches there as well. Edited December 19, 2016 by Ski2Live Live2Ski Quote
