GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted January 29, 2017 Author Report Posted January 29, 2017 January 29, 2017 day 5 of 7.... Hey All, I'm done with another fun day of skiing at Jackson Hole mountain resort. Today began with a big time inversion...zero at the base and 30 degrees up high. First run on amphitheater was the best it's been all week..just so smooth and absolutely not a single person on it..probably because we were ahead of all the people..up thunder and grand was also super sweet perhaps the run of the day as we returned to it several more times. Generally stayed out of the woods and bumps except for a few forays as they are getting awfully scratchy and eastern like with no new snow in 5 days and a lot of traffic. Did an early run on Rendevous trail which we usually don't ski early as we usually cut left into Bivoac woods and it was super good groomed cord. By 10am we had already racked up 5 runs as they let us on the first gondola a few minutes early and we were racking up 11 minute laps on the Thunder chair which is about 1500 vert and services some of the best terrain on the mountain. Laramie bowl wasn't as good as Grand as the cord didn't hold up as long and lots of sideslippers. Also did another amphitheater from the top of the thunder and some funky shadows up high but generally very nice visibility. Around 11am we skied down to the base of the Casper lift via the Nez Perce gravity traverse and it was like skiing into the ice box. Managed to find some fresh cord in the stash park and ended up skiing the two thousand something vert to the base via Blacktail and sundance and my face froze as I boarded the Teewinot lift. Up Apres vous tried to keep an eye out for TP4 but didn't see him and he doesn't respond to texts oh well he has two more days for the Atomic Jeff and GSS tour de Jackson Hole...at top of AV was a little warmer like 20 degrees vs zero at the base and 30 on top of Sublette. Skied down to the Teton lift via a cat track and lower kemmerer which is a super steep groomer then at the top of Teton lift researched lunch options in absolute warmth..we wanted to go somewhere new for lunch and Teton Thai is closed Sunday's ended up skiing the groomer along the ridge I think crags run, made some yellow snow and then took a variety of roots back into the freezer and ate lunch at Osteria in the hotel terra. I had oxtail soup and pasta Bolagnase and I left satiated now on the bus back to town and about to have my strongest edible..so should be numb in about an hour. Not a very long ski day but racked up about 12-15 fast groomers and only the last few runs were crowded and meh conditions...two more ski days left and a good chance for snow on Tuesday. Would love at least 4" on Tuesday Moe Ghoul lol. I'll post pictures later. 3 Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted January 29, 2017 Author Report Posted January 29, 2017 My Montana friend Tom is not coming down due to work commitments. He's been here 8 of my 14 trips and I went with my ex the first time. Lots of PASRs have been here. Johnny style lived in JH for part of a season back in the 90s during a gap year and skied some incredible powder 5 years ago here. Nazareth Jay was here in 2010 and 2015 and AngryHugo rode some deep pow in 2011 and was here other trips...TP4 I know is having a blast here how can you not. If any PASRs ever wanna ski Jackson when I visit it's always an open invite don't care if you ski or snowboard or a level 3+ whatever. That's what I like about Jackson hole it's all about skiing and they've been open 51 years so a lot of history. I was to busy skiing 60mph on 100 yard wide groomers to take many shots today but I found a few. Contrast in the sky between 840am and 11ish Quote

GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted January 30, 2017 Author Report Posted January 30, 2017 1/30/17..Jackson Hole day 6 of 7 Hey all, I'm back from another day skiing Jackson hole mountain resort. Had first civilian gondola to start the day again and was again cold at the base..around zero and warm up high..around 25...was almost like Groundhog Day as conditions were similar to yesterday. Sure powder would have been nice but skiing today was a lot better than work. First run down Amphitheater was like my favorite color..butter. Grand was grand and we ended up skiing grand three times. Rendevous trail was also decent except for the slow snowboarded hogging the traverse. We hit cirque twice and it was fast snow and in the shadows below. For the first time they groomed the skiers left side of Laramie bowl which you can only access the top from Sublette so that yielded some sweet steep and wide cord. Crowds today were pretty light..no liftlines..other areas of good snow were found next to the terrain park in the Casper area and right under the top of the Apres Vous chair which I've also never seen groomed before and it was smooth and chalky equivalent to a groomed run at blue after a snowstorm so pretty pretty good. By my counts did about 13-14 runs total then went to the mangy moose for lunch and had three double Jack and Cokes..didn't fall on the walkway outside the mangy so that's good. Took the 2:30 bus back to town and stopped at the liquor store for more Jack Daniels and snacks now gonna take a little nap before drinking more and supper tonight either brew brew brew brewery or the Thai place..both Toast approved. Didn't see TP4 today but hoping he makes it out first thing tomorrow or meets up with us later. Tomorrow it's supposed to snow somewhere around 1-8" could be spicy. In exchange for the perks I get flying with atomic Jeff..sometimes first class, free baggage($120 savings) and lounge access I typically take him out for an expensive dinner. Usually nanis pasta house but nanis is no more so last night went to trio and had a great dinner. Had a winter mule, ceaser salad, New York steak, ice cream, Jeff picked out a very nice wine and had Hennessey with my ice cream. Most of our suppers are pretty casual so enjoyed some fine dining and atomic Jeff enjoyed his arugula salad, risotto with waygu beef and pecan pie... We were actually two gondolas in front of our buddy Dennis and never saw him again. I hope he gets us footage from his GoPro of skiing Mach loony the other day. Was something you have to see to believe. Me and atomic Jeff were definitely a bit out of our comfort zone as atomic Jeff got a bunch of unexpected air off a roller and I used a herb touron as a GSS gate. JADIJH..sorry no pics today I'll take some tomorrow. 3 Quote
theprogram4 Posted January 30, 2017 Report Posted January 30, 2017 Texted Jeff at 2 but you guys were heading in. Got a real late start today cause I had to drive into town to get neosporin, hydrogen peroxide, bandages, and guaze. Yesterday I noticed piece of a tree was wedged into my toe edge. I was using a knife to try to pry it out. The knife slipped and my knuckle slid across my board's edge and slices it clean open. It bled for an hour straight but didn't hurt too much. I bandages it up real tight before bed, but too tight and cut off my circulation. Woke up at 4 I a lot of pain and didn't get back to sleep til 7. Still can't use my right hand smh. Today was great on the mountain though Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted January 30, 2017 Author Report Posted January 30, 2017 TP4 where were you riding today and what did you like the best. Quote
toast21602 Posted January 30, 2017 Report Posted January 30, 2017 Did you give TP4 a tour yet? wtf. 2 Quote
AtomicSkier Posted January 31, 2017 Report Posted January 31, 2017 Did you give TP4 a tour yet? wtf. Nope. We've tried to, but when you don't make it for first chair and you don't check your phone during the day, it's impossible to meet up with someone. Maybe tomorrow. I told TP4 I was going to ban VTMark if he doesn't make it for first chair. 2 Quote
RidgeRacer Posted January 31, 2017 Report Posted January 31, 2017 Did you give TP4 a tour yet? wtf.Seriously... I was imagining this thread turning out to be like a modern day version of the three amigos set in Jackson Hole complete with graffiti pics and trains. Regardless I hope all of you are having a nice time. 4 Quote
