RidgeRacer Posted February 7, 2017 Report Posted February 7, 2017 (edited) Just arrived at the Bird. First off, the important stuff. We rocked out to Pearl Jam radio and a little Snoop D-O double G on 90's at 9. We enjoyed a nice hotel breakfast consisting of coffee, sausage, eggs and home fries. about an hour and 15 minutes early but didn't want to take any chances coming up the Canyon road. Ride was pretty uneventful. Roads got somewhat spicy right near the resort where it's snowing. The resort is saying 5 inches overnight with another 7 plus on tap for today. Today could be pretty sick as the sounds of Avy bombs are bouncing off the Canyon walls. Looking up at this monster I'm reminded why this place is my absolute favorite ski resort. This next hour is gonna last forever... Edit... Some dude is putting in sunscreen. Hahahahahaha Edited February 7, 2017 by RidgeRacer 1 Quote
toast21602 Posted February 7, 2017 Report Posted February 7, 2017 Again, I hope they are able to groom constantly throughout the day so you don't have to worry about that white stuff flying up into you. That would be crappy if they didn't. 1 Quote

RidgeRacer Posted February 7, 2017 Author Report Posted February 7, 2017 Enjoying lunch at mid gad currently. We made 2nd tram this morning. Hidden peak at 11k feet was complete vertigo with what was probably 70 mph winds. We literally skied blind to regulator Johnson for some really deep bottomless shit but we couldn't see it on the upper half of the run. Visibility got a bit better and Dan and I skied some straight poe to the little cloud lift. It was so good that you we braved the elements again. Next down regulator to the Gad Valley where we parked it ever since. We found some deep and untouched the first few runs but it quickly got tracked out. Whatever snow they were calling for today hasn't come but it definitely did dump overnight. The bad news... Wind gusts have reached 90mph and everything up top is closed (tram, little cloud, mineral basin etc). Still a good day. Off to Peruvian (unless they close that) 2 Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted February 7, 2017 Report Posted February 7, 2017 You guys ski the cirque at all?? That looks pretty cool. Quote
RidgeRacer Posted February 7, 2017 Author Report Posted February 7, 2017 You guys ski the cirque at all?? That looks pretty cool. The cirque is great unfortunately it doesn't appear to be in the cards today since all lifts to the top are closed 1 Quote
GSSucks Posted February 7, 2017 Report Posted February 7, 2017 The cirque is great unfortunately it doesn't appear to be in the cards today since all lifts to the top are closed Gad 2 laps all day, ski Bananas to the second gate and drop in towards Teds. Once youre through the gate go like 50 feet and you will go up a little rise before it drops off into the trees. Head right and ski the rope line all the way back to the lift. You can usually work that face for a few hours because everyone just funnels into lower saddle and no one goes right. 3 Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted February 7, 2017 Report Posted February 7, 2017 Did you guys need chains??? Where's supper?? Quote
RidgeRacer Posted February 8, 2017 Author Report Posted February 8, 2017 (edited) No chains although chains or AWD were required to get into the Cottonwoods. Storm was a bust in that it didn't snow much during the day. That said, some people were saying that a foot fell overnight which makes sense since scored some pretty sick runs in the am...powder, float, people wooo-hooo'ing etc.. Those didn't last very long however since they closed little cloud, the tram, mineral basin (I don't think they ever dropped the rope there). After 3 or so hours in the Gad Valley, we ate then headed to the Peruvian Gulch area and skied there until around 3:30. Did a lot of traversing and found some nice turns although nothing equivalent to what we got in the morning (Dan snapped a few good pics). Bell to bell, Brighton was better condition wise yesterday but the am runs today were so good, unfortunately that didn't last very long and because of the wind we couldn't ski the best of the bird. Not complaining...still a good day. We were kicking around the idea of powder mt tomorrow but they were closed today and apparently also tomorrow because of wind and avalanche danger. Also kicked around the Canyons but looking like Solitude. We shall see. Edited February 8, 2017 by RidgeRacer Quote

Didn't see this although I'm pretty sure we did this or something similar in the morning. All of the best stuff seemed to be along the ropes. 1 Quote

GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted February 8, 2017 Report Posted February 8, 2017 Pictures from the bird are sickbird and I'm also jealous. I guess the bird is the word... 1 Quote
GSSucks Posted February 8, 2017 Report Posted February 8, 2017 I would stick to the Cottonwoods tomorrow, you're going to need elevation with this storm. Looks like snow line was around 7500', that's rain for a lot of Park City and Powwow/Snow Basin area. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2 Quote
