momskeeztoo Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 I have never flown taking my skis along. I have a soft canvas bag for them. Good enough, or should I get hardshell bag? Quote
JFskiDan Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 (edited) i have always used a bag. i put my pants, jacket, sweatshirt, etc in there to give a little cushion. Ski bags with wheels are a huge plus. Carry on your boots. Edited February 12, 2017 by JFskiDan Quote
momskeeztoo Posted February 12, 2017 Author Report Posted February 12, 2017 Ok good idea to put all that stuff in to help cushion. I plan on carrying on my boots. Thanks. Quote

Shadows Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 What happens when you skis get lost? Then you got to buy all near gear instead of just rent skis Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted February 12, 2017 Report Posted February 12, 2017 (edited) What happens when you skis get lost? Then you got to buy all near gear instead of just rent skisThe airline will reimburse you for the lost skis or any lost luggage. Typically baggage isn't lost it will usually arrive on a later flight. Happened to me once on the way back from jackson hole and I had them deliver my ski bag to work like two days later. On a ski trip you would typically have to rent skis if skis don't make it. It's why it's dumb to check ski boots I carryon my ski pants and jacket as well. Edited February 12, 2017 by GrilledSteezeSandwich Quote
trackbiker Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 I always used a soft bag and never had a problem. Quote
theprogram4 Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 ski bag and boot bag count as one check in. i check on my boot bag cause i carry on my clothes and things. 10 years ago to jackson hole they lost my stuff and i had rentals for 2 days Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 I haven't paid for baggage in years cause when I go to Jackson hole with atomic Jeff I get two free checked bags...ski bag and suitcase and when I fly southwest to Colorado I get two free checked bags. Quote
NMSKI Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 Anybody travel with 2 pairs of skis? Thinking about taking 2 with me but seems like it will be tight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Johnny Law Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 Anybody travel with 2 pairs of skis? Thinking about taking 2 with me but seems like it will be tight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I have the armada world bag from like 10 years ago, the gorillas have ripped off like three of the straps and handles but I've flown a dozen or so times with two pair in there. The only thing you have to worry about in my experience is going over 50 which only happens if there is other shit in the bag. One time some douchy counter lady gave me a bunch of shit but eventually she just gave up and let me go. Philadelphia doesn't give a shit about anything, skis aren't in their wheelhouse so they don't give a fuck. 1 Quote

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Always two pairs....two pairs of skis with bindings plus poles and two fleeces pretty much is 49 pounds. I have a really nice dynastar 195cm double ski bag was about $200. It's on it's last legs after 7 trips..so next season will need a new one. 1 Quote
toast21602 Posted February 13, 2017 Report Posted February 13, 2017 Rarely take two. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I put 2 in mine. Its made for 2 pairs, has wheels so you just drag it around rather than try to carry it with everything else you got going on. If you want to borrow it, its yours. 1 Quote
momskeeztoo Posted February 14, 2017 Author Report Posted February 14, 2017 I'm carrying on my boots. Checking everything else. Hopefully everything will end up where I'm at when I get there. 1 Quote
