C1erArt Posted March 15, 2017 Report Posted March 15, 2017 Icy skiing over the weekend (although lower Mountain Run, Wilderness, Niagara headwall, and Thruway were nice. 35 inches of snow yesterday, spent the morning digging out, and hit the mountain in the afternoon. Gondola, Cloudspin and Mountain Run lifts closed, but Face Lift and Freeway lifts open. A lot of people on the slopes, most struggling with the poof like I was. This morning after cleaning off the truck and camper roof twice yesterday. No snow on the ground Monday. Last night, our Pilot and brother-in-law's trailer. Actually that wasn't our Pilot, it was his F-150 1 Quote

C1erArt Posted March 16, 2017 Author Report Posted March 16, 2017 Damn dude, thats a freaking setup! Goes pretty much anywhere. We use it to have my wife come out to the projects I work on, since retirement is a ways away. 1 Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted March 16, 2017 Report Posted March 16, 2017 The only camper I've seen bigger than that one is my friends who have a big camper on the back of a ford 550 Quote
momskeeztoo Posted March 16, 2017 Report Posted March 16, 2017 How the hell do you get something like that out of there if the snow is deep? Are you at a campground or something to hook into electric or do you have a generator? Quote
Shadows Posted March 16, 2017 Report Posted March 16, 2017 (edited) Its a dually tank lol. 6wheel drive locking hubs? Edited March 16, 2017 by Shadows Quote
C1erArt Posted March 16, 2017 Author Report Posted March 16, 2017 Its a dually tank lol. 6wheel drive locking hubs? The KOA near Whiteface was bought a couple of years ago by people that keep it open all year, so we have electric. Not locking hubs, just standard Ford 4 (6 actually) wheel drive. With all that weight, it handles pretty well in the snow. The only camper I've seen bigger than that one is my friends who have a big camper on the back of a ford 550 They make triple slide outs now, ours is a single, which is plenty for my wife, our dog and I. JFskiDan Posted March 16, 2017 Report Posted March 16, 2017 Supposedly this storm was "one for the books" via Whiteface. Couldnt have timed that any better. And, yeah, i bet that camper/apartment thing is a beast in the snow. Quote
C1erArt Posted March 17, 2017 Author Report Posted March 17, 2017 I thought the same thing about pow skis. I'm a groomer kind of guy. Besides, you're looking at one of the reasons I usually buy used skis on eBay. Too many other toys. 1 Quote
C1erArt Posted March 20, 2017 Author Report Posted March 20, 2017 Back from Whiteface, skied 7 of 8 days with 2 travel days. After the storm on Tuesday, only the lower mountain was open on Wednesday due to high winds. Thursday the upper was open but totally not groomed, so I didn't head up. Friday Mountain Run and Skyward were groomed, but bumped up quickly, Saturday the grooming lasted longer. Top of Mountain Run was totally blown off down to ice, but the lower 3/4s and Freeway were great. Wilderness was pretty bumped, but had a groomed path down the side. Niagara and Victoria headwalls got pretty bumped after lunch. Lookout lift was running on Saturday (!) but the runs looked pretty sketchy, and a bunch of people were poaching the slides, with blind eyes from the top chair 6 lifties. Weather was cloudless and warm on Saturday, with Mount Washington beyond Lake Champlain clearly visible from the top of Skyward on Big Whiteface. Great trip. GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted March 20, 2017 Report Posted March 20, 2017 You could see mount Washington from whiteface u sure it wasn't Mansfield because it takes the clearest of days to see mount Washington from Stowe and sugarbush. Quote
RidgeRacer Posted March 20, 2017 Report Posted March 20, 2017 I didn't think Mt Washington was visible from WF. You can see Lake Champlain, Mansfield and Camels Hump... And of course Russia from the top. 2 Quote
momskeeztoo Posted March 22, 2017 Report Posted March 22, 2017 Mt Washington?! Makes me think of Wildcat. That's a fun place to ski. Quote
momskeeztoo Posted March 22, 2017 Report Posted March 22, 2017 Yes, it's a really fun mountain. I'd love to go back. Would also love to go to Sunday River. Quote
poconoceancity Posted March 22, 2017 Report Posted March 22, 2017 (edited) We might go around Easter if they are still open with good coverage. Edited March 22, 2017 by poconoceancity Quote

GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted March 22, 2017 Report Posted March 22, 2017 I've only skied Sunday River once. It's fun better than southern Vermont Quote
