So, @AtomicSkier has mentioned an interesting thing yesterday.

Once upon a time there was an open minded group of people that roamed around PA mountains enjoying skiing all over the place. They didn't care too much whether it was JF, CB, BM  or perhaps even MC and hated when moderators on a CB forum were removing each and every post that had even the slightest mention of BM.

So that group got fed up by the censorship and formed a forum, not unlike this one, where they could talk about anything, but the talk was of course ski-centered. Due to its openness the forum got so much traction that there were hundreds of people following it. At the peak of its popularity members were handed out free tickets to some mountains and then would show up in pretty big crowds, like 50 people a time, were given private rooms in lodges to hang out, and those days were the original glorious PASR days.

Then some got married, some had injuries, some just got tired of skiing, the hypnotizing blue light has pushed all but one mountain in the shadow, and whoever was not with the light had to be against it, and chose to stop posting. The remnants of that forum still have all those other mountains listed on it, but invariably the conversation in each and every thread rotates about the light, the true blue light that lights the path for the few remaining ones.

Now, I wasn't really paying attention too much, as I was still digesting the previous conversation about JH, and may have gotten many things wrong, but the story just fascinates me. Wow, just Wow, as GSS likes to say.

When was there ever 50 people at a PASR day?  Yes Jack Frost/big Boulder used to sponsor PASR and give the admins free season passes and some vouchers to hand out.  Me personally I've never cared for non Blue mountain ski areas in PA..the length of runs at Blue is my baseline benchmark.  Shorter runs than blue don't do it for me.  Sure I've had some fun PASR days at Jack Frost but I'd never visit there if it wasn't a special social day.

Anyway blue mountain is the best and closest place to most of us so it makes sense that most of us have season passes there.  It's usually not crowded at Blue so you can rack up 7 runs per hour every hour.  Blue is also aggressive about opening early and often is open into April as well. Eaf I know you aren't a bumper but blue is really committed to mogul skiers as well.  Blue mountain is one of the few ski resorts in the country that continues to expand.  Many ski areas are happy just to stay in business.

Anyway for mellow skiers and kids and park rats other places are just fine but if you want to have nice top to bottom runs, fast lifts and a mountain that doesn't flatten after the first headwall blue is really the only local choice.

Eaf in person you are very quiet..but online you are quite the squeaky wheel. If you were my customer I'd likely give you directions to one of my competitors.

It just so happens that the majority of people with any credibility on this board happen to be blue pass holders currently.

There are exceptions, like Rummy (elk), Schif (Montage) etc.

We could use more of that, but no one is going to blow mountain creek or camelback because you and salty do.

Your response is very characteristic. The story is not about whether BM is awesome or not. Every mountain is good in some way, BM has plenty of positives, get over them already. Dig this irony for a moment. A forum that has initially been formed because people didn't like the attitude of CB moderators has morphed into something not very much unlike what people had run from. Anybody who posts here something that doesn't praise the pure light of Blue in some way had better have some real thick skin. So, might it be that the lack of sponsorship and popularity can have at least something to do with the current state of mind of the surviving members?

As for being quiet, it's hard to talk when Salty is chattering all the time, and I didn't get your remark about competitors at all. I hope you don't talk your customers to death when they come to you with business.

Nah man.  I think we converted Schiff to a Blue pass holder (maybe next season?)

I'll be a blue passholder next year for sure. I'l wind up buying it at the end of this year to try to ride out a few weeks. I planned on being up at blue pretty much every weekend by now but unfortunately life has gotten in the way a little bit. I'm hoping the off snow things slow down soon and I'll be riding the six pack and drinking six packs in a week or two.

I didn't get converted by anything but location really. To me my home mountain will always be Montage, there is just something about that place that will always have my heart. Blue is the closest mountain to me, not counting Spring mountain which is 5 miles away. I'm not really looking forward to the commute to and from Blue, but I guess you have to do what you have to do. The upside is that I'll get to see all of you guys on a regular basis instead of just sporadically, and once I've got that pass I'll try to make the full transition to skis.

Amen brother!

It's kind of a daunting move though. I honestly wouldn't even know where to begin on buying a pair of skis or boots.

Start a new thread for skis.  I'm sure you'll get tons of good advice. :rofl

Boots... go to a boot fitter.

The surviving members happen to be some of my favorite people to hangout with..even Toast is alright.  Nice of you to ski with Salty and then talk shit about him.  As for my customers I just give them their options..they usually have a lot of questions..sometimes I get a squeaky wheel customer that isn't happy with our pricing or turnaround time or their cemetery or their relatives yadda yadda yadda..but in the end typically if they cry they buy.

A lot of the bumpers come up from the Spring mountain area.

"Talk shit"? Don't know where you found it. All I said was that he gravitated a lot toward you, and was bursting with excitement when finally ran into you and Jeff. If anyone is more unfair to salty is this forum. But he seems to like the treatment here anyway, so all's well.
