SallyCat
I'm here now. Arrived at 8 and am breaking for lunch. It's really good, though starting to get scraped a bit. It's been wet snow all morning but you can see and feel the layer of ice under everything. No crowds, of course. They are blowing snow in a bunch of diff locations. (We have exams this week; mine is tomorrow, but I don't have to proctor today, so I'm free to shred the blues in old lady style. I will stay into the evening because I like marathon days. Plus it's damn fun!
SallyCat
Oh, trails! Night-Weaver was scrapey, but main st and sidewinder are winners. Lazy is great fun. The terrain park trail next to Main st is closed for snowmaking. Paradise is only so-so. Lot of ice patches already. switch was fun but looks to be treacherous after some use scrapes the natural off
GrilledSteezeSandwich
I'm heading up to blue soon. I was gonna wait until later when it's snowing heavily but don't wanna be at work anymore as it's boring. I don't know how long I'll be up there. It's not even snowing now in Allentown but looks to be snowing on the Blue cams. Anyway I should be there around 130 at the latest. I might head up first thing tomorrow as well depending on how much snow falls overnight.

Sounds like conditions to stick to the sides of the trails and be light on your feet. Temperature is rising maybe the ice will soften a bit. SallyCat
Can't speak to challenge personally but people on the lift said it was good. No beginners here today to scrape it clean, I imagine

Oh yeah and I have a few secret stashes that should yield Edge to binding deep pow pow.

RootDKJ
There's nothing stopping me from driving there now, other than I don't want to do the drive 3 days in a row. Might as well get some shit done today.

Thanks. Don't want to scratch up my new RTMs. I believe it was your post which convinced me to give Montage another try since you said their snow quality was really good. For me Its between Jack Frost and Montage tomorrow. Im ok taking slower lifts sometimes for better snow.

I try to get to every local mountain at least once each season. Edited January 16, 2018 by saltyant
tarponhead
000FXUS61 KPHI 161901AFDPHIArea Forecast DiscussionNational Weather Service Mount Holly NJ201 PM EST Tue Jan 16 2018.SYNOPSIS...A ridge of high pressure will weaken across the area today. Alow pressure system and front will approach from the Great Lakesregion tonight. Another low will develop off the coast andaffect the weather tonight and early Wednesday. More highpressure will build towards the area late this week and remainfor the weekend. Low pressure and a cold front will move towardsthe Middle Atlantic region for the start of next week.&&.NEAR TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING/...-- Changed Discussion --A complete update to the forecast was published late thismorning. A new storm total snow graphic and experimentalprobabilistic graphics were sent to the web as well. Theseupdates required headline changes. The key changes in theforecast are listed below:(1) Upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning for Carbon and MonroeCounties in PA and Sussex County in NJ with 5-7" of snowfall(including the 1" or less that has fallen so far) expected forthis event. Hi-res models are keying in on strong mesoscalebanding on the northwestern side of the developing coastal lowlate this evening and overnight over the southern Poconos andcontinuing into the Wednesday morning commute for northwesternNJ.(2) Tweaked the start/end times for the Winter WeatherAdvisories with an emphasis on delaying the onset ofaccumulating snow to the S/E of the Lehigh Valley, southernPoconos and far NW NJ (where light snow is ongoing). See theexperimental onset timing graphic on our winter webpage forspecifics.(3) Introduced more mixing E of the Fall Line, especially earlyon in the event. Temps this afternoon in the 40s along/E ofI-95 and mid to upper 30s just to the west. Just about all ofthe guidance shows this residual warm boundary layer present atthe onset of precipitation tonight, resulting in mainly rainalong and E of I-95 at the onset and a rain-snow mix just to theN/W. CAA and dynamical cooling will allow for a changeover tosnow from NW to SE toward early morning but expect riming andmelting at the surface to result in lower snow ratios and thussnowfall amounts near and especially south of I-78 as well aseast of I-287.(4) Emphasized window for heavy snow with snowfall rates of 1-2"per hour late tonight across NE PA and N NJ. The heavy snowpotential extends into the first half of Wednesday morningalong and east of the DE Valley. This means significant impactsfor the morning commute. Even though snowfall amounts aregenerally lower than warning criteria for Warren and MorrisCounties in NJ (3-6"), we will have to consider upgrading to awarning based on impact on the morning rush.-- End Changed Discussion --
