RootDKJ Posted March 14, 2018 Report Posted March 14, 2018 A bill was submitted on 3.12.18 to legalize cannabis in NJ. http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/2018/Bills/A4000/3581_I1.HTM Here's some of the highlights. I haven't read the whole thing yet, but will this week. Quote Should the bill pass, New Jersey could see as many as 400 marijuana dispensaries spread across the state. It allows up to 10 dispensaries in each of the state's 40 legislative districts and calls for a minimum of two in each district. Under the bill, New Jersey would also license growers -- called producer-processors in the legislation -- and transporters, in addition to the retailers. The number of licenses for growers would be capped at 15 for the first two years before jumping to 25. The ceiling for transporter licenses would be set at 80. But the commercial cultivators wouldn't be the only ones allowed to grow marijuana. Those wanting to test their green thumbs would be able to grow up to six plants, with a maximum of three of those budding at any one time. Growing weed at home has been a controversial issue, as opponents say it contributes to the black market. 1 Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted March 14, 2018 Report Posted March 14, 2018 When does this go to vote?? I have heard that many black democrats in the NJ state house are opposed to the legalization of weed because they don't want to bring more drugs into their communities. Legalization of weed would actually help their communities as it would keep people out of jail for non violent drug crimes. 1 Quote

You are correct that the black democrats are fighting against this. Their plan is to decriminalize weed, and leave the black market alone. 7 minutes ago, GrilledSteezeSandwich said: In Colorado the black market is alive and well as retail MJ prices are quite high If a black market can co-exist with a regulated open market, it is only because the government is placing too many restrictions on the open regulated market, namely high taxes. Cory Booker is not part of the NJ State legislature, and is not involved with this effort. He does support legalization though. I'm actually stunned that any elected democrat won't support this. Well it's why people buy truckloads worth of cigarettes in Virginia and then drive them to New York to sell. Weed stores in Colorado do not accept credit cards and most banks won't deal with marijuana dispensaries so the large amounts of cash make the dispensaries easy targets for robberies. Quote

I understand security is a lucrative business out in Colorado to transport all the cash that the MJ stores take in. It because the feds won't allow cash made by selling MJ to be deposited in an FDIC insured bank because MJ is still illegal at a federal level, regardless of what the state does. 1 Quote
RootDKJ Posted March 27, 2018 Author Report Posted March 27, 2018 The NJ medical program just got upgraded light-years ahead. Here's a link to the report and some highlights... http://www.state.nj.us/health/medicalmarijuana/documents/EO6Report_Final.pdf REDUCE REGISTRATION FEES The Department plans to revise N.J.A.C. 8:64-2.1(1)(c) to reduce registration fees (from $200 to $100) ELIMINATE THE PHYSICIAN REGISTRY The Department plans to eliminate N.J.A.C. 8:64-2.4 and revise associated rules, which requires physicians interested in providing care to MMP patients to first register with the Department. In turn, these physicians were listed on the Department’s public website in a physician registry for patient convenience. The Department’s elimination of the physician registry will permit any New Jersey physician in good standing and in possession of an active controlled dangerous substances registration issued by the State Division of Consumer Affairs to authorize medicinal marijuana for their qualifying patients. ELIMINATE 10% THC LIMIT The Department plans to repeal N.J.A.C. 8:64-10.7(c) to remove the 10% THC limit for product sold 3 Quote
