Expand If you have access to a soil line in the basement or some discharge pipe, Hammacher Schlemmer has a dehumidifier that pumps the water out so one never has to empty the bucket. I don't have a sump pump in the basement, so this is a good option if you are away from the house for extended periods of time during the swampy season. Quote

It's < 10 steps from the dehumidifier to outside. I empty it in the morning when I get into my office and again in the evening when I take the trash out. We have no travels planned anytime soon.
