Upper goat and upper Starr in bad conditions are tougher than anything I’ll ski in Jackson hole..the exposure always gets me on a few runs at JH

I’m sure the exposure at JH will send me for a loop too!

It would have to be stellar conditions for my a$$ to do this...

Your regional generalizations regarding destinations are idiotic.

Question: you ski hourglass or maybe even just the goat woods at Stowe? I’m not saying Vt is equivalent to Rockies but there is some spicy terrain up in Vt off the beaten path and the conditions often make it more so.

I haven't been to Stowe in ages and have no idea what I skied there. Most of my VT skiing was when I lived in NYC or North Jersey and had no kids, so  Fall 1988 - Spring 2007. When I have been back to VT in recent years it has most often been with kids in tow, we have not gone north of Sugarbush, and we have not done the real challenging stuff, though they now would be able to tackle a lot more.

Saying Rockies are better skiing than VT doesnt mean they are harder skiing than VT. Certainly icier conditions can make Eastern skiing more challenging.

I stand by the PA is barely skiing part, but it's what I can get to on a day trip with under 4 hours in a car, so it beats getting fat watching football every weekend.

I don’t know about PA barely being skiing.  I sure felt like I was skiing when I was doing 7 laps an hour on razors Tuesday morning.

Salty what did you decide to do?

Colorado.... yeah yeah I'll get some flak on here for wasting my reservation but once I started looking up stuff about skiing out west, got too excited about it and decided I just want to go and not wait a full year. The flight I got is so cheap it sort of negates the loss from hotel.

I don't think you'll get flak for going west. I hope you have a great time.

Thanks. I meant for making a $300 nonrefundable reservation and not going. Dont worry, I've spent the last 3 days doing mental gymnastics to cost justify it to myself

Call the hotel and see if you can get some of your money back. It’s worth a shot.

What days are you going to CO and how many ski days? Where are you skiing?

I tried. Nope. It's nonrefundable and says so right on their website (25% off deal). No big deal, I knew that when I booked.

My flight is during the Super Bowl, then I plan to ski Tues to Fri and fly back early Saturday morning. Not sure where I'm going yet, probably Copper and Keystone, wherever is most gaper friendly.

I like how you used negate..high five on your first trip out west.  Have you started thinking about where you want to ski?  Did you book rental car and hotel?

I think Winter Park would be a good spot for Salty. Real nice groomers all over and he could ski bowl up top which gives him the opportunity to get above treeline, get great views but isn't anything too crazy.

Thanks! I booked a compact car for $148 and will look at hotels later today. Probably Silver Inn. I know you recommended an SUV but I rented a compact from Avis in Denver in October and drove in the snow just fine. Since it's not supposed to snow I think I can get away with not getting an SUV but still might change my mind.

If you stay at the silver inn I can give you dining suggestions.
