Other than thawing frozen water pipes, what does one do when the local ski hill closes and the outside air temps are below zero, warm up the car and drive to the local watering hole(s), stay in and read a book?

I'm asking out of curiosity, not on account of my situation. Although I have been in the same predicament in VT/NE in the past.

Well instead of going to Chets, we decided to pack up and head home.
We have experience thawing out the pipe. What idiot architect would run water pipes along an outside wall??

We're retired so no work necessary [emoji41][emoji41]

I think all the mountains are gonna be jam packed this weekend with the snow cold and then modifying temperatures.   Does Elk have a VIP line for season pass holders??
No, but if we ski like the Blue PASRs.. start early at opening it only starts to back up around 10:30. We learned the traffic patterns and can usually avoid big lift lines until the bar opens at 11:00[emoji481][emoji481]. Then it's quitting time.

Is there much of a tailgating scene in the lot at Elk?  On the busy weekends at Blue the liftline organizer is out by 930

Put a ladder up and hang 250 foot cables between 3 poles and a business. Wish I had taken my Carhartt bibs out of the attic before I buried the access, lol

I always tailgate at Elk and others do too. At the bottom of the Lenape trail there is a cut through to the parking lot. A lot of people leave their skis there and walk through to the parking lot.

The old lodge is a good place to hang out and have a few beers. On a weekday it isn't crowded. Sounds like that is the plan for the meet up.

When are you gonna meet up with the PASRs?

Fortunately either by accident or by design, the pipes in my place in the poconos run up the center of the house.  I have never had a problem, and my house is so poorly insulated. Well actually my crawlspace is well insulated, but the house is pretty pathetic.   I know plenty of people up there that have had issues, and i expect to be hearing from some of them when everybody gets up there for the weekend.  My one buddies well line to the house is notorious for freezing, and it runs under his house which is built on a slab.  Thats super fun to thaw out.

That's what the hidden lodge is for right? I remember hanging out in there a long time ago with one of the dudes who posted on EpicSki. I remember people were grilling hot dogs in the fire. It was cool there.

Access to parking lot from Lenape was closed last year. A fence and a locked gate now close the access you are talking about.

I worded this wrong, it came through in the entirely wrong context. Correction following in red.

Other than thawing frozen water pipes, what does one do when one is staying at their mountain hideaway cabin and the local ski hill closes and the outside air temps are below zero, warm up the car and drive to the local watering hole(s), stay in and read a book?
