My mom told my boulder aunt I’m here and she wants me to visit as well. The one year I met a girl from the internet in boulder who was from Allentown area originally and thought I was gonna run into you and my aunt and uncle and chippy. @jordan are you around? Ill be at Loveland on Saturday, but I am coaching. Quote
jordan Posted April 16, 2019 Report Posted April 16, 2019 Hike the north pole and drop into first notch or north pole. SHould still be cold winter snow up there. Hit up the steep gullies (SG1 has a traverse out to Pali about 2/3 of the way down so you dont have to hike out). Zuma cornice should be about good to go by now (corn) A-Basin rocks my socks. So glad they are off epic next year. 1 Quote
PSUFrankenstein Posted April 16, 2019 Report Posted April 16, 2019 nice pics, that Bloody Mary looks delicious. Quote

The conditions you mentioned aren’t at all what it was like today. I did see a few hiking to North Pole...my favorite snow was in the gully’s off Lenawee was Corning up after about noon..most of the new beaver terrain hadn’t softened yet when I was over there. Fun low key day at Abasin. More pictures and report later. I think I’m hitting up Loveland tomorrow could be a couple inches new. Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted April 16, 2019 Author Report Posted April 16, 2019 April 16 2019 Day 1 of 6. Hey All, I’m back from a fun day at Abasin. Arrived at the Early riser lot around 910am and it was super empty I parked in about the 8th row. Getting ticket from barcode on my phone was easy peazy skiing and Bloody Mary for $69. I was on the Black mountain express by about 930..and first skied Sundance which is actually a green as a warmup because it had a ton more fresh cord than the adjacent blue and I wanted to ski a quick run before the two lift slog to the top..skied Powerline which is one of my favorites twice..was nice cord very grippy as I said earlier 8 out of 10 east coast cord. Made my way over the the new beavers lift and skied the far left blue trail that had a warning that said this is their steepest blue..wow visions of Hunter North were in my brain for good reason as I had read that some lower internediates were getting in over their head in the new steep terrain. The snow off trail was rough so only went in the woods to make yellow snow and be safe. After I exited the woods there was a lady skier real solid probably like a type 3 minus and a guy skiing with her all over the place. I decided to give them a little time to get going more so I would have a clear run. Well I caught up to them alright the guy had slid almost in the woods and both skis were on and I handed him a poll..the bottom half of that run was stair step terrain and steep with a big Whoa Zone type fence so people have to go through the narrow center. I’m sure there are enough bloopers on that area to make an episode of America’s funniest home videos. By the time I was back on the new Beavers lift I was sweating woo..didn’t really cool off till near the top when it was windy and cloudy. Then skied powerline down to the mid mountain lodge. Had a Bloody Mary and $1 coors light 8 ounce can then had an ipa and soft pretzel. Pretzel was good I didn’t have much food earlier free breakfast at days inn does have hard boiled eggs which I like with some @saltyant high sodium day..cloudy with a chance of meatballs. Ended up talking to guy sitting next next to me at bar when I had like half my beer left I said I was gonna take a safety break and he said he’d show me a smoke shack. I didn’t go inside the shack but others were posted up in there..I was warned of traverse by a South Carolina raised snowboarder it was not much maybe 8 whoopdees..then I did three runs with snowboarder..it was the best conditions and light of the day and I really just stuck to the fall line on a combination of groomed and ungroomed also amazing skiing some nice lines that were solid 3 hours earlier. Peaced out of Abasin around 112 stopped at the Noodles and company and they’re closed for renovation so went to cheeba hunt got French dip sandwich and Arnold Palmer. Everything is weed themed in there sizes of sandwiches are Nug, Pinner and Blunt. Sandwich ok Quiznos level if Ski2Live knew what I paid for it he’d probably say a fool and his money. It was a fun day a bit of commaraderie in row 8 at Abasin..was able to ski back to within 8 cars of my rental. The picture of the snowboarder is during about a three run window whe. The snow was just perfect and the light was as well then light got flat.. 4 1 Quote

I was just there Sunday and skied powder on the gullies and east wall with my kid You are in Colorado, and need to play the aspect game this time of year. I am a Loveland guy on convenience and lack of crowds, but the terrain doesn't hold a candle to the basin. Especially now with the steep gullies in bounds. Edited April 16, 2019 by jordan 6 Quote

At +85% THC they are a damn effective means to get stoned anytime, anyplace. Eaf I smoke the real stuff yes it’s called flower and it’s cheaper to buy 3.5grapes in a dispensary in Idaho falls than 2 grapes at same store..and they have flat screen monitors and all that. Real modern except my hotel room at the days in. Vaulted ceiling is great I wish I had a basketball hoop. Could practice my free throws. Quote

Some of the stuff he’s talking about I’ve skied..some I would only ski with a guide and in deep stable snowpack which is similar to what we have now although any load of new snow and some winds and there could be slab avalanches. The base is locked solid though. Wet slides are scary Ive experienced them. Might get warm enough for them this weekend. Edited April 16, 2019 by GrilledSteezeSandwich Quote

Awesome pictures thanks for taking this thread up to the next level...I actually skied a little wintry snow was more like styrofoam which I like. I just think Monday was exceptionally sunny and warm I know I went without shades for a few minutes at rental car place and my future didn’t look so bright. Quote

That big avy chute on Peak 1 (the tallest peak in your photo) is new and was created in early march during a 100-year+ avy cycle. They are calling it silent bob chute because the smaller one to the right is J Chute By the way, you are skiing in-bounds. In-bounds avalanches are extremely rare in the US. You would have a better chance of getting struck by lightening. Quote

GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted April 17, 2019 Author Report Posted April 17, 2019 Snowing just a skiff but the mountains are obscured. I don’t know if this is the buoy pop I was hoping for but nice to see snow in the air down in Silverthorne its warm feels like 35 so likely 20s and raw in the hills. 1 Quote
toast21602 Posted April 17, 2019 Report Posted April 17, 2019 Nice! Enjoy your skiff! Whenever I hear skiff I think of a skid mark, so enjoy your skid mark too. 1 Quote

GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted April 17, 2019 Author Report Posted April 17, 2019 Nice start to the day at Loveland. Been snowing all morning. I’ve only skied seven runs so far ranging from an 8 minute lap on the new high speed quad to a slow and deliberate ski by Braille vertigo run from the top. Very quiet and low key here. The snow that’s falling is of the heavy wet variety and sticking to everything. Only a few pictures only getting two bars here so failed when I tried to upload like 6. 5 Quote
