tarponhead Posted December 18, 2020 Report Posted December 18, 2020 Alta had some Blue issues......Alta loads lifts with military precision that would make a drill sergeant weep with joy. I don’t see solo rides happening thereSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote
mbike-ski Posted December 19, 2020 Author Report Posted December 19, 2020 Montage is opening today with a few good trails - Boomer, Smoke, and Cannonball are all open. Too bad their tickets are no longer cheap, although I think they still offer a 10% AAA discountOh nevermind wrong club...Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 3 Quote
SallyCat Posted December 19, 2020 Report Posted December 19, 2020 Okemo was a shit-show today. I arrived a little late and had to park insanely far away. Texted my friends who said the main chair and one other quad were down, no new trails were open, and they were doing more standing than skiing. I turned around and headed home, figuring to get a few skinning laps on Mt. Ascutney. Turns out backcountry skiing is a bear right now because the snow is like chest-deep and even though it's fluffy, it's hard to make any progress even on the steeper pitches. A four-foot powder dump that makes skiing nearly impossible is pretty on-brand for 2020, I'd say! Headed out to earn some turns tomorrow now that today's skiers have chopped it up. 5 Quote

Look at it this way. After the snow settles a bit, you’ve now got 3’ of base to work with for the next storm. Everything is covered, so a 6-8” day is gonna ski awesome and not be miserable on the up. Get after it!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 5 Quote

First time on the card should have no restrictions correct? 3 Quote

Barb Posted December 20, 2020 Report Posted December 20, 2020 (edited) Damn 3 people died in avalanches this weekend. One in CB Friday and body recovery for 2 more off Ophir Pass near Silverton. Bad start to the season Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Edited December 20, 2020 by Barb 1 Quote
RidgeRacer Posted December 20, 2020 Report Posted December 20, 2020 What are card reloads? Please explain what this means they are doing? They load the first pass on the card. go right to lift essentially. Each additional pass is 50% off but you need to purchase /load it to your card online before you go. 6th pass is free but I think you need to load that to your card too. Quote

They should offer some sort of compensation. Glad at least they are not blocking season pass holders. 2 Quote

RidgeRacer Posted December 20, 2020 Report Posted December 20, 2020 I think he’s talking about card reloads being blocked on weekends and holidays Thanks. They did advertise it as valid on weekends and holidays with a 25% discount so I could see how people would be pissed. 1 Quote

I’m not familiar with the ORDA cards, are they bell only? if not, I can’t really see whoever sells them being responsible for compensation if a mountain makes a decision to block certain days Quote

Personally I only planned on using it midweek because 25% off doesn't entice me as much as midweek skiing and 50% does. And it's not just belle...its all. Here's what wf says.. Frequent Skier Cards are SOLD OUT!!!All Frequent Skier Card tickets must be purchased online in advance. We are presently selling tickets for Monday-Friday outside of blackout periods. For now, Frequent Skier Card ticket sales for weekends and blackout periods are paused, but we will be adding inventory exclusively for you in the coming days. Please note that tickets for 12/24/20-1/3/21 are sold out, so tickets we add will be for dates following Christmas Week. We will continually evaluate the availability of dates as we go through the season, so please check back 2 Quote

Decision could be reasonable given Covid, but some compensation should be given. Quote

Popular Post skiincy Posted December 25, 2020 Popular Post Report Posted December 25, 2020 I skied Copper yesterday. No lines and plenty of space. But, it was like 9 degrees and windy. Did about 8k of vert in under 2 hours. It was my first day out so I took it slow. I didn’t take any photos on the mountain but this pic on 70 can give you an idea. Today, I skiied Winter Park. It was a blue bird day. Got about 12k in about 3 hours. To start, I parked in the free lot G (that’s me in the black SUV). Then, I strolled over to the Cabriolet lift (beer can lift) to hit the village. It was great to not have to take a shuttle bus. A couple of the lifts like Sunnyside, Challenger, Super Gauge Express, and the Gondola had 10 minute waits, everything else I pretty much skied right up to. If there was a line, I just opted for the slower 2 seater lift versus the express. It was easy to avoid the lines. Above is line of Super Guage Express, but just to the right is Pony Express and it had zero wait. It doesn’t take you as far up but got my skis back on the snow faster. The runs were mostly empty and easy to avoid, which felt like a sharp contrast to the Schuylkill River Trail in Philly. Ducked into some of the trees. Not much powder but it was good to practice the variability. the sun started to set and the shade rolled in around 3pm. Made it chillier but still fun to cruise down the runs as it begun to empty out. tomorrow is an ABasin morning ski.. 9 3 1 Quote
