Barb Posted February 14 Report Posted February 14 Winter is back! Finally. Snowed about 6” overnight. By the time I left the house it was 8+. Roads were awful so I just went into town the XC ski the park with the local ladies. Took my fatter skis and broke trail, good workout. got my jeep stuck coming home. Our plow guy seems to do our road last. Took about an hour to get it unstuck. puking snow now. Supposed to get another 4-8 today 6 1 1 Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted February 14 Report Posted February 14 Wow cool report. I wonder how much a tow truck costs in those parts?? Do you still see Amazon vans all over? 1 Quote
Barb Posted February 14 Report Posted February 14 I knew between my husband and I, we could get my Jeep out. First I walked up my hill and got my maxtraks. That didn’t work, so my husband had to come down to me with the snowblower. Between that and shoveling out all the tires we finally got it done. But people around here are so community oriented, I could have called several people if I really needed extra help. No Amazon trucks. Our neighborhood mailboxes are 1/2 mile from my house near the county road. Nothing gets delivered to my house. 2 Quote
C1erArt Posted February 14 Report Posted February 14 (edited) Lockers didn’t help either? Never had my jeep out in really deep snow. Edited February 14 by C1erArt Quote
Barb Posted February 14 Report Posted February 14 I put it in 4H when I get into my neighborhood. Up my unplowed hill I should have put it in 4L. Tried that but was already too dug in at that point. Was probably 10” by the time I got home. Quote
mbike-ski Posted February 15 Report Posted February 15 You know those traction thingys work better when when you put them in the snow under the tars 🤣 2 Quote

indiggio Posted February 15 Report Posted February 15 Does it have a winch, looks like there's one in the bumper? There appears to be plenty of trees around. Quote

I like to put it in low any time I am going under 20 for a sustained period, especially when climbing a hill. Easier on the transmission and transaxle. Had to get my 2015 JK front locker replaced because it wouldn’t come out of being locked. Pretty pricey. Should have had air lockers put in instead of getting the stock locker repaired. Love watching the off road rescue videos on Facebook. Edited February 15 by C1erArt 2 Quote

Yes there is a winch. Wasn’t needed @C1erArt do you drive that fast in 4L? I thought you were not supposed to exceed 7mph Edited February 15 by Barb 1 Quote
C1erArt Posted February 15 Report Posted February 15 (edited) 25 is the max, if I am driving a sustained speed of 15 or 20 on the flats I might switch out of 4 low. If I go too slow in 4 high for extended periods I start smelling the gear oil. After watching the recovery videos I got a kinetic recovery rope in additional to my tow strap. Not sure I’d have the guts to actually use it. I subscribe to the philosophy that off road capabilities are to get you out of trouble, not into it. Plus, it is really my wife’s jeep. Barb Posted February 16 Report Posted February 16 Little break in the storms today. 2 more on the way this week! Took my fat XC skis to the air strip near my house. Went down to the river and was able to cross a narrow tributary. Then I got to a wider crossing and decided not to press my luck. Kinda sunny, warm temps. Skis were glopping up and had to add some wax mid way. 4 1 Quote
