Popular Post tarponhead Posted January 20, 2022 Popular Post Report Posted January 20, 2022 Had a blast skiing WF with Indigo and son yesterday (~27k vert?). Made the 85 mile traverse to MRVin a little over 2 hours, settled in at the White Horse inn and enjoyed killer burrito and beverages at the Mad Taco. 20Jan Mt Ellen: woke to ~20F but knew temps would drop as the day progressed so dressed like an astronaut and made the 3 min commute to Mt Ellen taking advantage of its throwback Thursday program of Mt Ellen only for $40. Bad day for Mt Ellen only pass if you like diversity. Load testing north ridge quad so all of upper mountain is closed. Inverness lift does not spin mid week either. Only runs are cliffs, hammerhead, tumbler and lower fis. Of which only cliffs was groomed. Cliffs was meh, Hammerhead is sketch up top but good below. Took a header on HH trying to negotiate a large exposed rock band and spent the next 15 min climbing up to retrieve my ski and find relatively flat ground to click back in. Tumbler was ROTD. FaNtastic snow with several head walls of bumps. Really super fun and spent 90% of day lapping tumbler. Lower fis was also pre sweet but looonnnngggg runout with uphills and exposed stream crossings made it a one n done. So pretty much lapped tumblers unti ~2PM when my legs said no mas. Temperatures seriously tank tomorrow and I head to Bolton Valley which I have never skied before. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 14 1 Quote

Popular Post tarponhead Posted January 21, 2022 Author Popular Post Report Posted January 21, 2022 21jan Bolton Valley: woke up to -13F so kinda not in a hurry to get outside. Left waitsfield at 9AM and to BV 45 min later. Access road got some STEEP sections. Spicy weather would be interesting… BV reporting 20” in the last 8 days but nothing in the last 72 hr. wilderness peak not open so basically one lift up. My impression of BV is if you mash up smuggs and Magic you get BV. If you like ripping groomers this place is not for you. But it got a gazzilion rabbit holes to poke around in and I was having a hoot. The snow off trail was still pretty good - guess arctic temps will do that.Temps warmed to maybe 4F today but at least no wind so if you dressed like an astronaut you were fine. Plan is to hit opening here tomorrow and ski to noonish and head home tomorrow. Looking forward to another day here.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 13 2 1 Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted January 21, 2022 Report Posted January 21, 2022 Nice looking sausages. I skied Bolton valley a few times in college. Tiny vertical but I’m glad it’s operating. It was a lost ski area for a few seasons. Quote
RidgeRacer Posted January 21, 2022 Report Posted January 21, 2022 It was no doubt cold out there. Appreciate you taking your glove off and snapping the pics for the pasrs! 3 Quote

They also have night skiing which is rare in Vermont. Quote

Wilderness peak not spinning so only on vista todaySent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote

They opened wilderness peak for first time this season today. Huge backcountry tour scene here also.
