GrilledSteezeSandwich
Nice report..Barb I’m glad you didn’t get injured during JFDans visit. He’s about to board his flight to Dallas and now you can go back to walking around your house with no pants on lol Edited February 15, 2023 by GrilledSteezeSandwich
GrilledSteezeSandwich
Looks like last night JFDan walked off one plane and back onto another. Plane #1 landed at Dallas at 634pm and plane #2 left Dallas at 658pm. Good thing the gates were close to each other. Woooo

I had always considered the Gunnison flight being a problem, and i must have been a little sleepy when i thought there was another DFW-PHL flight like an hour after my scheduled flight, but second look showed that was incorrect. i spent a small amount of time trying to come up with plan B, in case i got to DFW late, but the options sucked bad. So, yeah, i was the asshole on the plane yelling at people to get thier shit together and get off the plane or get out of the way. I was going to do whatever it took to make that flight.

Did the Gunnison to Dallas flight take off late due to weather/de-icing?
JFskiDan
De-icing. Gunnison is a neat little airport since they re-did it, its alot like JH now, just not as over the top. So they dont have a lot of flights go out. So the people at the counter who check your bags, are the same ones that handle boarding as well. But it kinda runs at a slower pace.

Are they also the ones that touch under your armpits with rubber gloves? I got that in Newark, the guy even joked that this was gonna me my worst massage ever. The joke was on him as my pits were sweaty. Gotta be the worst job ever. 1
Popular Post Barb
I am pretty sure I have a sinus infection now. Ugh. Day 9 of feeling lousy. But I have a friend here so skiing it is. I heard the last 2 days were the worst crowds people have seen here. Glad I skipped it. I left my friend at a lesson as he hasn’t skied in over 20 years, yikes. He gave me slightly different info when said he was coming. But he has a great attitude and I give him lots of credit for getting out there. Another poor visibility day. Headed right down to East River from Paradise. And to be honest it wasn’t too good down there either. Started dumping snow. After about 4 laps, I tried to find some mellow trees off the front side. Ran those a bit and now taking a break for lunch. If the visibility does not improve gonna call it a day. Snow was supposed to arrive tomorrow thru Wednesday night. Seems it’s early. Forecast is 10-20”. A few pics from the tree runs Edited February 20, 2023 by Barb
Popular Post Barb
Whew what a great morning! Yesterday was super warm in the high 30’s and sunny. Today the promised storm finally arrived. Webcam said 4” this morning. Been snowing hard all day. The last few days of coughing fits have left my ribs feeling like I was in an MMA match. Popped some extra strength Mucinex, loaded my pockets with cough drops and away we went. I could not believe how empty it was! I guess CB peeps don’t bother unless it’s at least 6”. Skied right onto every lift. Found some well spaced trees that had mid calf powder, they were fun. then the wind picked up and you could barely see 5’ in front of you. What it looked like at the base, you can hardly make out the lift tower

Barb
Skipped the resort today and did a mellow ski tour at Washington Gulch. Pretty flat, kept skins on whole time. About 8 degrees, windy, snowing and not much visibility. Was glad some snow mobile guys had been there first to lay a path for us. I am the dot in the center 5
Barb
A great day to end my skiing at Crested Butte. A day of milestones. Ski day 30, previous record was 26 and still plenty of season left. One year ago today I broke my knee. The best milestone is that I did my first steep tree run. Not a big deal for you pros, but for me it was an accomplishment. Too chicken to try with @JFskiDan but since my friends were here I felt good about it. As Dan knows, my friend Ilise is great in the trees so she guided us down. We did the trees off East River. Dan knows where they are. Before the tree run we did bumps all morning. Some pics Natalie Me. Could never get an action shot of Ilise since she is just too fast Ilise tree run I skied the top and “survived” the bottom. Natalie By far my favorite ski day of the season ❤️ 6

Popular Post Barb
Got to CB Tuesday afternoon. Had to find a hole in the storm cycle to travel. In winter when Kebler Pass closes, it’s just as far from Marble as it is from Boulder to get here. There is a route that cuts 30 min off the time, but you skirt the road of Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Did it once in winter. It’s icy, foggy, twisty and desolate. I kept thinking if I slid off the road nobody would find me until spring! So now I drive here via Montrose and stay on the main roads. All of Colorado seems below snowpack levels. When I arrived my house wasn’t blocked by a mound of snow. But maybe winter has finally arrived. Yesterday woke up to a fresh 4”. It was negative temps and the wind was whipping. So I was lazy and took the 10:15 bus. I was told Paradise was socked in and absolutely freezing. So I stayed on the front side. It was bitterly cold. My face hurt after an hour so I left. Today the webcam said 7” when I woke up. By the time I left it was up to between 8-9”. Surprisingly quiet. Again, due to very low viz, I stayed on the front side. Decided to try and work on my very mediocre powder skilz. Did 6 powder laps and a few groomed. Snow was deep!! Only a few pics as it was pretty cold again. Supposed to snow all weekend. It’s a holiday so will probably be busy 13
Popular Post Barb
It is absolutely puking snow here. 12” overnight The other cam gets cleaned off at 5:45 am. Barb
After a week of flat light the sun finally emerged today! When I took my dog for a pre sunrise walk and saw the bright full moon I was like, oooh a chance for no clouds today! my friend slept in and I sent her a text I was leaving. Got there right at 9 no lift lines to speak of. It was very chilly this morning. Headed right down to East River and it was so icy. So went back to Paradise, that was better. Then scoped out my usual smaller bump areas. Only one shot today. I think this is Middle Twister not positive though. 8
Barb
As some of you already know, I made the bittersweet decision to sell my place in Crested Butte for a variety of reasons. I am glad I got to introduce so many PASR’s to the awesome mountain and town. When I went to get what little personal stuff I had there it was a very slow walk out the front door with a little lump in my throat. 7 years of good memories for sure. So since I am now 100% invested in my current location, I decided to buy this little UTV. The lead king loop is 4 miles from my front door. I am not a “jeeper” but there are amazing trailheads down the road. If you can cut off a 6-8 mile hike, you start out in some really awesome spots. And yes, my Jeep could make it, but my jeep skills are lacking. This machine is smaller and easier to navigate. 4

I also heard boats are usually referred to as her but may change with all the pronouns and trans stuff lol Lucas Catania named his sprinter van Luna… Edited March 28 by GrilledSteezeSandwich
