Popular Post NMSKI Posted February 28, 2023 Popular Post Report Posted February 28, 2023 Had a nice first day at Taos Ski Valley. Kids are in ski school for the next 3 days so I skied a bunch with my wife and kids today. Was nice and sunny and about 3-4 inches of new snow to start. Kachina peak lift opened around lunchtime and we decided it was time to take my son up there. He skied Main Street to Nastar Chute and handled it great. Since that went well I could see he was ready for another extreme steep, Castor. Skied a lot of trees and groomers and all in all a great day. Got lots of pics of my son. Need to get the little son of a bitch to take some of me next time. 9 6 1 1 Quote

GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted February 28, 2023 Report Posted February 28, 2023 Nice action shots and sunshine. My prediction is that march is gonna come in like a lion in Taos. Be ready for some Perd 1 Quote
antman12 Posted February 28, 2023 Report Posted February 28, 2023 Your kid is going to be (already is?) a sick skier. He also seems to like getting air! 1 Quote
Popular Post NMSKI Posted March 1, 2023 Author Popular Post Report Posted March 1, 2023 Just got back from day 2 at Taos ski valley. Was super windy this morning and lifts were on hold until about 10 am. Dropped the kids at ski school and skied a couple runs with my wife and mom before I decided to ski some woods off the backside. After that took a 15 minute hike up highline ridge and traversed over past the tresckow ridge and twin trees chute to a rarely skied area called eagles nest. I had never found it before and I was up for an adventure. Found my way in there and was rewarded with an untouched powder line. Had a bratwurst for lunch and then skied some steep trees. After that took a hike up to west basin and broke my pole while whacking my boot to get the snow off. Skied a very nice Zdarsky (5th chute) and it was very weird not being able to pole plant on one side. Took lift 2 back up and saw my kids and instructor coming up 7a and I tagged along with them down longhorn which is a legendary Taos steep. Hoping it’s not too windy tomorrow then looks like a storm rolling in. Trees Eagles nest kids on longhorn 8 4 1 Quote

Popular Post NMSKI Posted March 2, 2023 Author Popular Post Report Posted March 2, 2023 Couple pics from today. Skied hard and too lazy to write much. Looks like some snow tonight and tomorrow morning. Snowed an inch or 2 this afternoon and freshened some things up a bit. 10 2 Quote
tarponhead Posted March 2, 2023 Report Posted March 2, 2023 I heard Taos is a four letter word for steep. 1 Quote
Popular Post NMSKI Posted March 3, 2023 Author Popular Post Report Posted March 3, 2023 They ultimately reported 9 inches today but there were some very deep turns to be had on the mountain. First run I decided to get up to the top of lift 2 and I skied right under the lift and it was deep. Skied the what chutes and a bunch of steeps while waiting for the backside to open. Caught the rope drop on Hunziker bowl and it was very very nice. Snow started again at about 10 am and it dumped until about 2:45. Free refills were had all over and especially in the trees. Rare for me any more these days to do a bell to bell session but I skied hard all day with a short break to eat it was so good. Ran into my kids’ group a couple times and they were having a blast. Sadly tomorrow is my final day here. pics in no particular order: 4 7 1 1 Quote
NMSKI Posted March 4, 2023 Author Report Posted March 4, 2023 (edited) Wrapped things up nicely on Friday, which was a beautiful sunny day. Started out with a nice long perfect groomer from the very top of lift 2 all the way down to the bottom of the backside. Perfect corduroy and no people so I could really let them run. Seas really hoping that the Kachina peak lift would open since it hadn’t run since Monday and there was fresh snow the past few days. My wish was granted at about 10:30 when I saw it was loading and I immediately hopped in line. I was probably about the 20th or so chair, and even though it was tracked up under the lift from patrol, i traversed out to the K chutes and was able to get an untouched foot or more of powder straight down K4. Brought my son up a couple times and brought my daughter up as well. Aside from a nice lunch at the Bavarian, I basically just skied Kachina peak all day in the sun and it was magical. Back in Albuquerque now and heading back to PA tomorrow. Edited March 4, 2023 by NMSKI 5 4 Quote

Barb Posted March 5, 2023 Report Posted March 5, 2023 Those pictures are great! I wish I had outdoorsy parents and had active vacations growing up. Your kids are so lucky and are little rippers. 1 1 Quote

It’s like 100 yards from the top of the lift if that. Takes about 2 minutes but I still get a little out of breath at 12,500. Quote
