Also went in halves on a parking pass with my neighbor. It’s good at Highlands and a lot at Snowmass I have never been to. On other side of mountain, but that lift doesn’t open for a while. What was funny is Johnny style who’d been skiing there since the 80s never even skied it when I visited. I want to go back though. Not a lot of powder hounds like most places. 1 Quote
Barb Posted December 12, 2024 Author Report Posted December 12, 2024 Real time Snowmass report. It’s sunny and feels warm. After 2-1900’ baby bump runs I came in for a snack. Empty chairs and slopes! paid $9 for chips and a tiny yogurt. 😂. Back out in 5 4 2 Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted December 12, 2024 Report Posted December 12, 2024 $9 for that is cheap. Quote

Barb Posted December 12, 2024 Author Report Posted December 12, 2024 @Johnny Law yeah I think was on either Wineskin or Whispering Jesse. Took one more run off Big Burn and ran through Sneaky’s Glades popped out and finished with the short Jack of Hearts bump run. When I got to the bottom of Big Burn I knew I didn’t have another one left in me as it’s 3200 from top to base. Scooted down to the base, almost ate shit on some out of nowhere rocks. Stopped to compose myself and heard some girls saying “Be careful lots of rocks here” to each other. Overall stellar day. 6 Quote
Barb Posted January 16 Author Report Posted January 16 Went to Buttermilk yesterday hoping it would be a bit warmer since it’s lower elevation. When I grabbed my skis from the shed they were so cold I could not carry them with bare hands. Been -10 here every morning for about a week. Temps were 12 when I arrived, 16 when I left BRR. Buttermilk was uneventful but quiet. Today was due to be warmer so went to Snowmass. Used the parking lot for the pass I bought for the first time. It is literally right next to the lift! Amazing. It’s the other, quiet side of the mountain. Dumps you off at top of elk camp Gondola. I took the second elk camp chair to the top, never been up there (Snowmass is absolutely huge). Really pretty views. that lift is about 1500’ of vert. Ended up at the bottom of Village express not meaning to, just meandering around. It was a gorgeous bluebird day and 30 degrees when I got back to the car. My plan is to cross country ski somewhere local tomorrow. Deep freeze coming in Sat-Tue. Temps due to be -30 at night, real temp not wind chill temp. 5 1 Quote

Nice report Barb and have there been any inversions? -26 booting up a few years ago at JH seemed bad…but it was near zero up high. 20 degrees in Allentown when it’s windy and damp feels colder Quote
Barb Posted January 17 Author Report Posted January 17 No inversions. They were pretty common in Boulder but haven’t seen one here yet 1 Quote

Barb Posted February 9 Author Report Posted February 9 Stellar day at Snowmass! It has been so dry here. I uphilled at Buttermilk earlier in the week and it was an icy luge coming down. Woke up to some surprise snow! Snowmass reported 2” but by the time I got there it was definitely 4”. I booked a lesson just to get a refresher on some things and my girl took me to a lift I only was on once with atomic Jeff when he visited. Everything was untracked and skied amazing. Talked to a ski patroller who said at their morning meeting yesterday, management told them the snow was so dangerous they should “ski as little as possible”. He said they had a lot of on mountain injuries. This week looks to be a little snow every other day. No major storms but will take what we can get. 9 Quote
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted February 9 Report Posted February 9 That snow looks great..amazing what a couple inches of fresh snow will do. 1 Quote
Barb Posted February 10 Author Report Posted February 10 Doug turned me onto this guy and he is touring Colorado. Good overview of Snowmass. Looks like he was here last week or so before things got freshened up. 2 Quote
Popular Post Barb Posted February 23 Author Popular Post Report Posted February 23 (edited) Great weekend at Snowmass. Had a friend come visit. Bluebird and warm both days. Light crowds surprisingly. New boots are $$. That bootfitter at Highlands knows his shit. Natalie in Powerline Glades skied Longshot for the first time. I think it just opened last weekend. It is indeed long. 3 miles and 3275’ of vert. The first 2 miles are bumps and trees then it’s just ungroomed crud. Our legs were pretty toasted by the end. hiking up views at the top signs tell you when you are 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 of the way down. definitely a run that’s more fun with a friend then solo. Barb Posted March 25 Author Report Posted March 25 Aspen passes went on sale this morning. I went online to buy one and when I went to check out noticed they were almost $800 more than last year. I realized I had a 24/25 pass in my cart and did not click the “spring sale” button. 😂. It’s been so warm here! 50’s and sunny daily. Snow is a slushy mess. 2 Quote
Johnny Law Posted Thursday at 08:26 PM Report Posted Thursday at 08:26 PM Skied eldo yesterday and today at steamboat. 10 inches fell yesterday and nobody is home so super fluff all over. A touch thick by CO standards but absolutely spectacular snow by my standards and everything is skiing super fine. No pressure just ski the pow when you feel like it under perfect temps and blue skies, i hotboxed the shit out of every gondy kinda day. CO Spring Supposed to snow and be windy later afternoon otherwise we'll hit up the t bar. Eating in the thunderhead lodge or something and while super impressive it does seem a fuck you to the wind......let's put a mini skyscraper on the high point of a ridge cut down all the trees and build zero wind blocks..... 8 Quote

In 30 years of skiing I've never done anything so stupid and that is saying something. Hockey stop pull up to the ski rack and the downhill ski catches and bitch slaps me into the snow. My arm is all janky but I don't think I've ever been so mad at myself. All the fucking skiing I do and I noob beater it pulling up to the rack......absolutely disgusted with myself though up to that point it was perfect spring skiing. 1 3 Quote

Yeah looking at the trail report, it's Mahogany Ridge and closed for the season. I've ridden some of stuff in that section when it was out of bounds but now it's lift served. I think my favorite trees there were Triangle trees and Closets/Shadows, both off storm peak lift. I don't remember most of the trails names there either as I was always following my buddy, who skis crazy fast everywhere. 1 Quote
Barb Posted 8 hours ago Author Report Posted 8 hours ago Winter is back here. Got some decent snow. Crickets at Snowmass. Powder stashes all over. Was really nice. started out in sunshine, then clouds and light snow. Buttermilk closes 4/6, Highlands 4/13, Snowmass 4/19 and 4/20 for Aspen Mountain 5 Quote

Was really nice. started out in sunshine, then clouds and light snow. Buttermilk closes 4/6, Highlands 4/13, Snowmass 4/19 and 4/20 for Aspen Mountain I'm skiing buttermilk tomorrow and am in town all week with my brother if you want to take some laps hit me up. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After wrecking yesterday I went to the clinic where they pronounced I royally fucked my deltoid which has to be the dumbest injuries ever but I did decide to wash the sand out of my vag and rally at the tbar. The boat was reporting 3 inches new today and with blue skies and warm temps it was a super nice day. I can't really move my right arm at all so while lefty is normal I have to trex righty and hold it up against my body. This brought on much hilarity in things like trying to carry my skis or put my jacket on but it also means I'm no judge of conditions as my wings were clipped. Pow I was super off balance in the transition and just went full straights only, groomers I can only really turn right but fwiw I thought it was super good albeit heavyish snow. The crowds started to show up around noon and I bet the boat can get super crowded but the lines were neglible and I trexed my way down the hill all day with much happiness. For me getting older and having to ski anyway other than how I want is nightmare fuel but I did find even making unbalanced doodle turns at slow for me speeds I still had a great time and enjoyed myself. I'll turn the dial back up as soon as my arm works again but I gotta say I don't fear the reaper so much anymore and I gotta give the boat mad props for that alone. 1 1 Quote

Pony was running and that was super good until the afternoon sun really baked it so I definitely want to get back out and hit Mahogany. 1 Quote
