High speeds are susceptible to winds for sure, but that bubble just might as well be a sail. Silliest thing on a lift that goes like 2000 feet ever. There is actually a fixed grip right next to it, but i would assume based on the recent happenings at that place, its basically a monument. Jeff and I saw some chairs swaying like crazy on Christmas day, and i dont remember it being windy. That place is such a mess this year. Like, embarrassingly fucked up. Bubble lifts are actually less susceptible to wind. They're heavier and the bubble actually helps with aerodynamics. 2 Quote

I might buy into it some, if the bubble automatically closes for both the up and down. i think, if im not mistaken, killingtons does. Bubble down, i could see your point. bubble up, big fucking sail. 1 Quote

In their eternal quest to suck every last penny possible out of the place they found the limit where people stop coming because the experience is shit. The real question is how much do they even care ? Skiing is a shitty business and I have to believe all the other shit they have going on makes way more money so from a business perspective replacing lifts or doing maintenance doesn't make alot of sense if you believe you don't need the skiing to bring them in the door. Blue for all it's many faults only really has skiing to make money from so the skiing at least in theory can never be that bad. i will say this, that new lift is way over the top for a PA resort with 800 vert. That thing is way fancier than the MSE. Big building to put all the chairs in when they dont feel like running it. its like they bought the Caddy when a nicely optioned Chevy would do. 1 Quote

mbike-ski Posted Tuesday at 07:02 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 07:02 PM "can" being the operative word, my guess in real world applications the difference apples to apples is negligible source AI ?! Quote

Placement would be far far far more important, same thing with fences or similar. Think quincy at dv and why all the lifts at flagstaff are positioned the way they are. Quote

Read the words it's not talking about wind loading values but protecting riders...... unless they put all the chairs in a wind tunnel it's all guessing and even then the direction and placement is way way way way more important. 1 Quote

JFskiDan Posted Tuesday at 07:19 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 07:19 PM i will say this though, its windy AF in Tannersville today. Quote

Just do the math on the surface area alone and the real discussion is single vs dual rope. No single rope can hold a candle to dual rope. 1 Quote

We could all tailgate in the paved lots of Camelback and not get mud all over our ski boots while consuming copious amounts of Yoo-Hoos. Quote
EdBacon Posted Tuesday at 11:54 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 11:54 PM Hey wow would be a good time to use one of those fixed grip lifts they're letting rot. You know some people collect those things and some old mountains still keep them running and would love to have them. Or not. Whatever. 5 1 Quote

I loved riding Old Bailey on busy days instead of sitting butt to nut on Sullivan Lift. Usually no one was on it unless it was really really busy. I've rarely seen many of the other fixed grips run in my time other than the Glenn Chair and I think Pocono Raceway once Quote
theprogram4 Posted Wednesday at 02:36 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 02:36 AM I loved the rare occasions I got to ride cleopatra triple in my younger days. That was open even less than the double next to it, I think mark anthony 1 Quote

GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted yesterday at 01:08 AM Report Posted yesterday at 01:08 AM I’m just hoping one of these days I arrive at Blue and there’s a rope across the entrance with a sign saying..sorry folks we are closed but feel free to ski at camelback. 1 1 Quote
