Substituting the ski brake.

The brake on my vehicle is no longer functioning properly. The binding is still in good condition. Would it be sufficient to search for a low-cost replacement online and secure it with a few screws? Or is it necessary to locate an identical or similar replacement to ensure proper fitment?

I would replace that brake for your vehicle with whatever i could find around laying my garage using flex seal, duct tape or super glue.  For some reason i think i have heard people using some springs and stuff off of rat traps.  not those dinky mouse traps, but those really big rat traps.  hope that helps.
