momskeeztoo Posted January 12 Report Posted January 12 I’m heading out that way this week, and thought we would give it a try. Anyone ever been? I did notice they have some high speed lifts. Quote
saltyant Posted January 13 Report Posted January 13 Maybe @Ski2Live Live2Ski has a $5 coupon off White Tail for MomSkiz2?? Quote
Ski2Live Live2Ski Posted January 13 Report Posted January 13 Whitetail is pretty nice - been there 4x. Modern facilities and terrain is segregated by level of difficulty, with less crowds in expert area But it does get crowded on prime weekends and holidays Nice place to go for warmer weather turns when it is frigid elsewhere but southern exposure slope does not make for a long season 2 Quote
momskeeztoo Posted January 13 Author Report Posted January 13 It’s supposed to be cold Thursday, so I think conditions will be good. Midweek so hoping not too crowded. 1 Quote
Icecoast Posted January 14 Report Posted January 14 I went to whitetail the year before it was sold to vail (RIP peaks). It was cold for weeks leading up to my visit and with peak resorts snowmaking efforts, conditions were some of the best I’ve ridden in PA. That being said, I’ve heard rumors that vail does not use snowmax in their water like peaks did, so they make a wetter denser product now. Not sure if true or not, but having ridden hunter pre and post vail, I can say the snow is definitely worse under vail. The mountain layout is really genius. The trail map makes it look kind of boring, but even though the trails are straight down the fall line, there is some really fun character to them. The blues are steeper than most blues elsewhere, which is really fun. I really enjoyed my day there. the only downside I can see is if anyone your going with is a park rider. Like what vail did to boulder, they did to whitetail. They removed the park lift, and moved the park over to this super tiny side trail with room for like 2 features. This move isn’t shown on their map yet, but its happened. I posted a trip report from back then Quote
momskeeztoo Posted Wednesday at 02:03 AM Author Report Posted Wednesday at 02:03 AM Thanks for the info. I’m going with someone who rode strictly park for years. Now kinda aged out, and has skis with edges now. 😂 4 Quote

I’ve never visited but intrigued as it’s one of the newer ski areas in the country 1 Quote
momskeeztoo Posted Friday at 03:19 AM Author Report Posted Friday at 03:19 AM (edited) Had a great day today at Whitetail. A lot of what Icecoast said is true. Some really icy spots, that we contributed to them blowing water out of the guns and the park lift chair no longer has chairs- just an old lift station with a concrete counterweight. And the layout is really good, everything on skiers right is beginner, gradually work to more difficult terrain as you go to skiers left. The steeps are nice, and blues a little steeper than at home. They had some surprise whales on a couple trails, and light was flat, so hard to see. Got some air off one, - accidentally, but didn’t stick the landing. indiggio Posted Friday at 07:00 PM Report Posted Friday at 07:00 PM You probably felt right at home with the ice, coming from Blue! 1 Quote
momskeeztoo Posted Friday at 10:59 PM Author Report Posted Friday at 10:59 PM Well, the problem was the snow was beautiful, then all of a sudden a sheet. That along with the surprise whales and flat light. All in all, a fun mountain if you’re out that way already. 1 Quote

momskeeztoo Posted Saturday at 09:28 PM Author Report Posted Saturday at 09:28 PM It was Whitetail. It’s definitely not a day trip, I did like the mountains surrounding it. 3 Quote
